Hi all. I've been given a TECHNICS SL-BD20-KXA5 DC Servo Automatic Turntable System for repair and own use (to digitize my LP vinyls).
Problem is: the owner attempted self-repair and possibly damaged stylus.
Stylus is EPS 24CS, the orange clip-on shell as in photo.
Damage was due to no replacement needle, so an alternate was super-glued into brass holder tube on stylus !!
(Actually, needle looks more like a piece of metal safety-pin, bent at tip).
I've approached our local distributor, a music-instrument retailer, who could not locate the part (stylus).
As stylus/cartridge has no output on 'scope at max resolution, I gather it doesn't work.
My questions:
If I manage to remove the glued 'needle' from tube, without damaging stylus, what type or shape of needle normally fits here, as back of tube has a small hole, which I think may be where the needle's rear protrudes ?
How does this type of cartridge work ?
Most older types that I've seen (or had) had the needle pressing against a sensor, above, in the cartridge.
If all fails, could I substitute (if possible) for another needle/stylus/cartridge ?
Owner still has complete Hi-Fi system to which this belongs.
Alignment, weight-balance, and matching maybe a problem.
What type of cartridge would this turntable use - magnetic or ceramic ?
Reason asking: For my own recording, I have pre-amp schematics to build both types.
..which will feed my sound-card's line or mic input, for digitizing to MP3.
