Hi mark8denny, velcome to this board

The resistor is probably a 600 ohms, 1 % tolerance resistor!
1:st ring(stripe) = blue(6)
2:nd ring = black(0)
3:rd ring = black(0)
4:th ring = black(0) this is the multiplier or the amount of zeros after the 3 first rings
5:th ring = brown(1) this is the tolerance

There is also some other ways of marking resistors, look in our Articles section, theres a nice little "book" about resistors marking, the link is here:

A dirct link to the "book" is here:

Also look in our download section, theres a nice little resistor calculator!

the fact the resistor is blue dont matter, they can be blue or brown (the main color of the body of resistor not the little stripes  :D) just as long as they are the same size...  thats about all i know about resistors and that you cant put one in backwards ;D

The light-blue resistors I've seen are "flame-proof". If you use an ordinary resistor in your meter and it goes "poof" again, it will set your meter and maybe your house on fire!!

If you install it backwards then you might need to stand on your head to read its value. Or use it in Australia. ;D
