I have a 3 light traffic light.
120 volt AC.
I would like to wire it so lights blink randomly and independently of each other.
Simplest and cheapest
Help

So anything from one traffic light on to all 3 on ? When a light comes on, a new random
value, how long to stay on ?

Can you write code, build prototypes ?

Your question is not clear. With three lights there are seven possible combination if you allow multiple lights to be on at the same time. If you want only one light on at any given time, that is a different problem; not necessarily more difficult, just different.

Also, do you want all blinks to be the same length of time, of should the blink time also vary randomly within limits?

Three of these : ---> https://www.lightbulbs.com/product/cooper-12030 in their sockets, probably much cheaper from China.

Same unobtanium with another number ---> https://www.vendio.com/stores/motor...ts-/new-light-bulb-flasher-for-tra/lid=196030

Only chance would be a very old electric parts store. :(

More $ ---> https://www.ingramproducts.com/products/view/solid-state-ac-flasher

Or, automotive flashers are near $0 at wreck yards. Use a 12V supply adapter to power 3 for relays for the bulbs.

Relays won't last very long in such an application. A typical relay has a lifetime on the order of 10^6 cycles. Assuming a blink frequency on the order of 1 Hz the relay will last

Hi :)
Nobody's said it, so I'll say that your rewiring of these lamps should be safe... I'm recommending 12V DC, which I expect you'll get from a car battery.
With 12V you've got lots of options... the simplest and probably most reliable is the automobile indicator flasher suggested above. Just use the flashers as the manufacturer intended - rewire the traffic lights to accept automobile indicator lamps.

If you want to play with electronics, that's another story. We've got trillions of ways to go about your job, some of which involve spacecraft.
