So had a good look round internet but couldn't find anywhere that showed me how mechanical meters work. Is it possible to make your own?

I'm guessing there is all different types to take different readings?

There is more than one way to skin a cat (they say) so making your own 'mechanical' meter has a number of possible solutions.

Might I ask why you want to 'make' one?

just to see how they work, also i get annoyed buying stuff if i can make it, even if it costs more. Also want to see how small i can make them.

I did search google a lot. Sometimes it's difficult without language/terminology. I also have language/comprehension difficulties associated with autism. So maybe you were teasing with this reply earlier, if not please consider that others may have difficulties beyond your suggestion of being lazy or less resourceful.

HOwever you have given me much help on here which I am very grateful for. Thanks for the link. That has helped a lot. I missed the link earlier.

I most certainly wouldn't make fun (knowingly) of anyone's physical or mental deficiencies - your typed responses don't offer any clues and my psychic abilities are lacking - however I apologise unreservedly if you feel that I was doing so deliberately.

That particular comment was borne out of seeing so many requests on the forum for advice that can be fulfilled with the simplest of searches on Google - but, as you say, it often takes having the correct terminology to get the correct results.

All you were (perhaps) missing was the 'type' of meter - volt meter or ammeter - as all 'mechanical' meters fall into these two basic definitions. Only the 'scaling' changes.

No worries. I just wanted to be clear. I don't think it matters much if you know or don't, just good to be aware if possible.

I would have found it if i'd typed coil/moving and maybe ammeter...

No worries at all, I didn't think you were being mean or ablist, just been on so many electronics forums where passive aggressiveness is acceptable I was a bit taken a back. And yes, it must be hard work to reply to so much, I know for us with no training that the knowledge and patients of those guiding us and keeping us safe is invaluable.
