If digital filters are done right they can be very stable. That is one
reason why WDFs were introduced.
Digital filters of the same performance as analog filters are still
power hogs though. There is an excellent paper in the latest IEEE
Spectrum about that, in regards to cochlear type implants where power
consumption is a key factor.

In my experience digital filters are just as stable as analog ones as
long as they are not oversteered and there is enough head room for the
filter's Q factor. The latter is easely overlooked.
