Hi LegendBreath

this takes me back a bit.. but according to websearch

Yes, they are identical.  The 6507 package was created strictly
to save space on the PCB, in those days it did not make sense
to create a new die and mask for such an "improvement" since this
was much more expensive than the package design.  The 6507 in
a 2600 should react the same way to undocumented opcodes as the
6502 in a C64.

Does that help?

Hi LegendBreath

I'm afraid my Vic has gently rusted out in the garage, maybe there's some way of recycling it as a doorstop, ah! technology moves on, in an odd sort of way I'd be happier playing with my Vic, PET, Dragon, Atari or Sinclair (Yes, i've still got them all) than Visual Studio .NET but I have to eat

Lol, yeah it's fun to play with old things :p

And, someones know if it's possible that my CPU on my VIC-20 is a 6522??? Because, there is MOS 6522 and no 6502 chip on my board...

The C64 is using a 6510  :p

One of the best places (I think) for Commodore stuff is: http://www.funet.fi/pub/cbm/

Miss my VIc-20 - it has alzhimers  :'( - a known problem in old VIC's...

But all my C64, spectrum, lambda, amiga, spectra video, sort, amstrad, new brain..... still works  8)

Well, do you know which chip the VIC-20 use?

How about overclocking?  1 Mhz is standard if I remember correctly?

Hi Bikerman,

I don’t have the schematics but I guess it would be possible to increase the heart rate a bit!  8)
I once changed the 16 MHz X-tal to a 33 MHz on a 386 PC. ;D

Here are the schematics http://www.funet.fi/pub/cbm/schematics/computers/vic20/index.html

there is a CPU running at 2 MHz you can out stright in (can't remember the name), you don't need to change the x-tal (6502DX2 ??  8))

when the VIC was hot you could buy a 4 MHz upgrade for it !!!, the problem with just changing the x-tal is your timing gets screwed, the timer and disk drive woun't work any more

Just found that the 6502A runs at 2 MHz - but I don't know if it is with a 1 or 2 MHz x-tal

Hi Bikerman,

OK, so no real time clock in a VIC then? With the PC there where no timing problems except with some old DOS programs.
