  1. The diagram details are almost correct. its 8X 240v 400w units. the units each have 7 tubes in. the coil starts in one end, out the other then into the other one, so the ir only has 2 wires at the back. I only know this because one of the tubes broke on one so i had a look.
    what about this one

    Thanks

  2. Im no good at these calculation things, still learning.
Ive just pulled off a ir from the rack and the details are. 400w/230v

I bacically want it so its full, med. low. not sure how though,. i can put on a 3 way dial switch.
What resistors would i need too? i mean tolerence/watt?
    Thanks for your help

  3. Ok as you can see below is the diagram of my intentions.
    Ill explain through it.
On the left side is fans, thats no problem. the right side, i want a main switch, when turned on it will send power to the ir switch and to the 12v xformer, i want the 12v to power a flashing led and a buzzer that buzzes quietlyin the background. These 2 are for safety so i know this is on and dont forget its on.

The ir side is i want to set some sort of power switch for 3 settings. High, Med Low, some sort of rotory switch?

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.
This is for a strip of ir's and fans to dry the ink as its comming off a printer at work.
    Thanks

  4. Will this work ok, and need some help.
Would it be possible to change the var resistor to a digi pot meter so i can get more precise changing of voltage.
Also can i attach a digi voltmeter to it to show the voltage, the input is 12v from the car so would have to drop that down to 5v+/- i think.

Ideas, schematics drawings will be most helpfull, thanks :D

  5. Ok this might be a stupid question but we all start somewhere.
Im making a power supply for my car to power my uniden cb. details below
Uniden UH040XR/UH042XR/UH044 handheld UHF CB radios
    24/12 Volt
    Output voltage: 7.0 VDC
    Output current: 70mA

ok, the unit only needs 70mA, i was going to use the lm2675 stepdown regulator. The question is, its 1A so will that make any difference. or will the CB only draw what it needs ie 70mA.
Its to run the internal battery charger for it.

Another question is, i have a few things for the car i want to make a multi power supply for, Is there anything i can use that will go from roughly 1v to 24v and about 10A. my idea is to make a small box with a rotory switch on it, then put it to what i select. ie laptop, bettery charger, bla, bla
    Thanks

  6. Ok ive found this in the shed. can i convert it....?
ITs a Arlec CB146 Ni-CD DC Car Fast Charger for battery packs.

    Details.
Negitive delta peak charger with auto switching Fast / normal

Reset by connecting new ni-cd pack
    40 min safety timer
Electronic protection from short circuit, overloads or wrong polarity..

    Fast charge current -5A
    Normal charge current- 320mA
    For 6-7 cells. 1,2Ah (16 mins) -3Ah(40mins)
    7.2v - 8.4v

Could i use this and mabey stick a resistor to bring it down to 6v 1A
is so what should i use,,
Thanks for all your help so far in this Funny but epic journy.

Hey by the way i came over to aus from the uk 3 years ago so i know what its like on both sides of the world. and i must say, the blood isnt rushing to my head :D

  7. hi again
im trying to build this but finding it hard to get a couple of parts, can some one help me,
If anyone knows or a replacement for the following.
    SCR1 = NTE/ECG5402, RS #276-1067, EC103A, MCR104, etc
    D4,D5 = 1N5400, NTE/ECG5850, RS #276-1141, or equivalent

Ive found these but not sure if i can use them as replacements: SCR1 - UF5402

  8. Lol.
i should change the topic to the comedy topic.
Back to the first thing, this battery after i opened the small cover caps, it was half full , so i topped it up with distilled water that i got from the car. i stuck it on a small 300ma 6v power supply, and it started charging a little.
No is there any way i can make a charger for the car..
this light is like 1mil candle power and very usefull when u have a gun and rabbits / roos are around :D

  9. The battery details are, as written on it.
    Shengwel
    Valve regulated battery
    3fm4.5 (6v4.5ah/20hr)

    Constant Voltage Charge
    Cycle use: 7.20-7.50v
    standby use. 6.75-6.90
    Initial current. less than 1.2a
    --------------------
Now this battery dont seem to handle the charge like it used to, anyway to improve it a bit within a charger?
    Thanks ante

  10. 1st , im making my own pcb now after getting a laminator for the toner transfer to the copper, im having problems with the toner not sticking very well, it soaks till its all etched but 1/2wy through the soak some of the finer lines just come off and float around? any idea why?

2nd is it possible to make a laser to make the holes in the pcb instead of drilling, going through too many drill peices..
pref converting a small pen laser.

    Thanks
