  1. Hello audioguru, and thanks for the info... The question I would like to inject in this decimal to pulse quest would be: What is it that a standard touch-tone telephone use, when you set it to pulse instead of tone, When you select pulse out for a telephone, you can actually push a decimal digit and actually here the pulse click the number you pushed.. What are they using for this? Thanks for the help..
  2. Thanks kevin, I think I'm going to need a data sheet of a Multiplexer to fully understand the principle.. I am attempting to make a mechanical movement of a stepper motor that will correspond to movements via a digital keypad.. In other words, if I push key 5, I want the motor to step 5 times ..(Just for experimentation). I want this project to be free of computer input (serial, usb parrallel) and free of microncontroller input..
  3. So when the Binary number is input to the Multiplexer, the Multiplexer will take that binary number and convert it as the relative pulse count at a certain pin in relation to the clock frequency that is applied to the Multiplexer? Are there any schematics that support such an operation that I can view? Thanks The reason I ask, is because there isn't much if any thing over the Internet explaining this chips function in full...
  4. Thanks suraj, but I was looking more for an IC number and type that would perform such a function... know of any?
  5. Hello, I'm trying to find out what chip converts Decimal Numbers to generated Pulse Output...? In other words, If I have a keypad and press the number 5, and want to have 5 Pulses of output, what chips would perform this action? I guess I would prefer a square wave type Pulse.. But not particular.. Thanks For any Helpful Info In Advance...
  6. EXCELLENT SITE !! Just wish I could Save the All the Data ... You know some of these sites Disappear after a given time .. And I would hate to see this site go down ... Thanks Much. ;)
  7. Yeah, I bought this thing from Radio Shack some years ago and unfortunately it's without the backlight.. I had a Green LED meter years ago, Loved It, only for my brother to make it dissappear! I just real prefer those LEDs over the LCDs but the ones I see now days tend to be quite expensive for some reason...
  8. sorry it took so long for my reply here quantum, just got back... What I mean is, try to have your light source focused so that it isn't too wide a projection.. In other words, you could possibly get a lenz attached to a circular black cup housing and attach it to the top of your light source... This way the light would be more concentrated on your reflective object only... Lets assume my photon theory is incorrect, and reflected light will change the photosensor's state, then if your quest for laser solutions fail, I believe this would be your next best approach... but who knows..
  9. quantum, this may sound a bit out of place and close to impossible, but I believe one option would be 'Reflection', The problem would be getting the set position for the reflection.. If you could manage to get a reflection to reflect back to the Photosensor, then you could use a narrow beam yard lamp to reflect up the pole and in turn trigger the photosensor.. of coarse the yard light would need to be on your property and positioned in a way that it doesnt disturb much except up to the reflector. The hardest part would probably be getting the reflector in place.... Just a Thought.. Maybe I'm ahead myself.. Correct me.. The operation of photosensory may not work with direct lamp light.. Not Sure.
  10. Thanks for the Replies.. Yeah, I was particularly speaking of the one within this forum. I guess I asked the question because I have a DVM that uses the LCD display and its terrible in low lighting, that is why this project is very interesting to me.. My LCD meter uses 6 AA bateries and it is portable. Therefore, I was trying to see if I could find a way to get by with so many AA, AAA or 9v batteries..
  11. I ask this because it appears that it takes more than the average battery supply to power this project.. Is there a way to make it use less power for portability? Thanks In Advance..
  12. I read across a few posts here and maybe I'm Missing Something, But ... Even If you were able to tamper with the photocell (On/Off), I believe you would have to keep a constant feed of transmission signal on it, or it would simply return to it's original state once your mechanism is withdrawn from it... So you would have to keep turning it on or off I believe ... Just my 2 cents.. ;)
