mixos Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Hello iraq_mosulTo make fine soldering you need:1. a very thin nose on your soldering iron that may be less than a millimetre at the end2. a very steady arm3. lot of passion 4. lot of exercise5. and a fine piece of solderingThat's all you need to make a succesfull fine soldering. Alternative to the fine nose you can take a piece of copper wire and turn it over the current nose of your soldering iron. Then you will solder with the end of this wire. Quote
MP Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 Another tip I will add:(1) Use liquid solder flux on the pins before you solder. You can clean them later with alcohol. It will leave a nice clean connection and cause the solder to flow faster.(2) If you get solder between the pins causing a short, use solder wick to absorb the excess solder. Flux will also help this to go faster and cleaner.MP Quote
billy Posted February 25, 2004 Report Posted February 25, 2004 Any idea WHERE we can find this liquid solder flux ? Any common brands ? It is a very good idea after etching, it makes the pcb looks really professional. Quote
MP Posted February 26, 2004 Report Posted February 26, 2004 Here are some choices:http://www.abra-electronics.com/catalog/chemicals/gc39.htmlhttp://www.rpelectronics.com/Default.asp?Main=/English/OnlineCat.asp?Menu=/English/Content/Categories/CatM_85.asp%26Detail=/English/Content/Items/835-100.asphttp://doityourself.com/store/6713317.htmhttp://www.action-electronics.com/kester.htm#Fluxhttp://www.advancedpcb.com/products_flux.htmI am only familiar with the rosin flux and that has been the industry standard for years. But there are several types such as easy clean up types. These might be better if you do not want to use alcohol to clean afterwards. Some are water clean up but I have an opinion about putting water on my circuit boards before they are protected. ;DMP Quote
