graphics card VRAM replace

Hello,

One (ore more) of my graphics card's VRAM has gone bad. Took out the card to only baffle on the VRAM chips being ... unreplaceable ? The VRAM seem to be facing up on both sides of the video card. I can't see their pins... Help!

yeah they are all surface mount .... you are NOT going to replace them

if its faulty you will have to buy a new card

You could try bakeing the card at around 180celcius for about 3 minutes.

If the problem is caused by cold (broken) solder then heating the card will do the trick.

make sure you dont burn it hough.

This trick worked on my laptops removable card.

You have nothing to loose anyway right ?

When I see the magic smoke appear from a graphics card, I remove the cooling fan for parts (if it has one) and scrap the rest of it. This is from someone who collects old motherboards because I find them beautiful.

Last time I wrecked a graphics card was when testing a second hand motherboard from ebay. I put the Motherboard linked to a power supply, monitor, mouse and keyboard, direct onto my kitchen table, desert fashion with no case. The graphics card moved ever so lightly....and shorted. Carelessness costs graphics cards

Uhm, should I ? with al those electrolytic capacitors and who knows what other pieces of plastic that might not withstand this ?
Anyway, how do I make it 180 deg in an old oven ?

Have you contemplated replacing the two capacitors that look like they have bulging tops?

It is possible that this is the actual problem.

I'd go for simple things before complex ones.

Such temprature and short time should not harm any components. like i said it worked for me. Glad to hear that the caps worked for you..

Theese electrolytic caps tend to go bad after a few years
