Computer speakers power issue

What has been in the corner of the enclosure where all the crud is? Has the box been standing in something?

Just the corner of my desk. Maybe it's dust.

No It's not dust. looks as though something has leaked into the enclosure. Were they second hand or pre owned as the term is these days.
