This Control Relay Box is designed to make an engine engage its super charger at appx 1700RPM then disengages at 2200 RPM unless the throttle is set to full from takeoff and then engaged until 2200 RPM from 0 RPM.
I have a diesel Volvo Penta Engine that has a "speed Control Relay" box which basically energises the magnetic clutch on a super charger
at a certain Engine revs/ or if the throttle is put to max from stationary and then disengages the clutch at another higher RPM and so on
This box has basically melted and destroyed its circuit board due to an over current situation with a faulty magnetic clutch.... cannot source another one until later this year (Volvo dealers have had this on back order for over a year!)

I/You/They ought to be able to make this!!

We have the following:-

Connector Case Identifier Info
P1 31 GND
P2 - n/c
P3 G2 Signal from position sensor
P4 G+ Supply to position sensor
P5 S1 Supercharger
P6 G1 Engine Speed Sensor
P7 15 Ignition Switch (+12v)
P8 - n/c

Throttle position sensor
NPN. Normally Closed

Engage Disengage Kick down Disengage Decelerate Disengage

Engine RPM 1700 2600 3100 1400

Freq Hz 935 1430 1705 770

Many thanks for looking

What is the question?
Hi Harald,
I need to build a replacement controller that switches the compressor clutch on and off depending on the values of two sensors ... an engine RPM sensor that returns a sine wave freq. at a certain rpm ( table) and a proximity sensor to indicate that the throttle position requires immediate kick down (energise compressor clutch)
My electronic knowledge is basic and I'm sure given months of research and studying I would be able to work out what needs to be built but I'm sure you guys already have the required (and some ) knowledge.
Cheers
Andy

We need photos of the bad board to gauge the level of technology Volvo thinks is necessary for the task. A couple of opamps? a 100 pin microcontroller? both?

Unfortunately board is with a repairer that still has it and has stated that there is too much board damage but have included a picture of someone repairing this type on controller... these controllers were circa late 1990's on non electronic controlled engines with the bias on reliability and durability in marine situations but fairly low tech

Also found out original circuit is based around LM2917
