Hi,

I have an old Sony HCD-H5 deck, European model.

It doesnt power on and after searching the web I found a post on this site (very old) that says it could be either or both:
  • bad 5v power regulator
  • leaked transistor

I have the service manual.
Appreciate any guidance in locating if the above 2 issues could be the problem. Starting with the power board, where do I look first?

Id start something like visual inspecting the board.
Most of the problem i solved like that, sign of damaged, fried or loose connections.
Im not an expert, just trying to help, maybe i inspire to for another idea :)

open it up take a visual look at where the power socket goes into the pcb and have a look to see if there are burn marks around hat area. a few pics would be good to put up for us to take a look.

800ma fuse blown

Don't forget checking the fuse.

Thanks!

The 800ma fuse on the power board was blown. I'm getting a delay 800ma 250v (same rating) replacement. The other 1.6v fuse is fine.

I'm hoping the transformer is ok, because there are no leaks or burns anywhere.

Thanks again.

the blown fuse would suggest the problem!! thank god for fuses eh?!!!!!

well that may be all it is, tho fuses don't blow for no reason
it may be indicating another fault
