    Mobotix sensor interface

Hi peoples! I have managed to get a couple of 6Mpx Mobotix camera modules. Does anyone have any information on their interface?

Designing a soldering iron for limited dexterity

Check out the guy who made a pool cue that does magic to mean you can't miss. I can just imagine a soldering iron like that.

    COVID-19

After 1 week of lockdown, and a subsequent week of mandatory masks, we are back to normal. It appears that the person who caught the more easily spread variant strain wasn't a very good shedder.

Stage Line 500W amp repair project

In this case the flying leads are just used to help connect the meter to the output. I guess you could hold them there, but you may need an extra pair of hands. Quite often we will use either meter probes with alligator clips on the end, or short leads with clips on both ends to clip to both...

    Chip ID...Who am I?

MP65 seemed to be the best starting point leading to a list of possible devices, most of which would seem to have no purpose in a tablet :-(

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

Just for completeness, the type 83 has a 3A at 5V heater, and the 5Y3 draws 2A from a separate 5V winding for its heater.

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

I've found another very fragile wire that broke when I looked at it a bit hard. I suspect there are more, and they may be hiding in hard to reach places. I have also noted some obvious wiring changes that appears to be old and most likely associated with the factory rewiring to 600A...

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

So it turns out the bulb I was using was 60W, not 80W. When I bump it up to 120W it doesn't even glow and allows me to wind the voltage up to at least 130V. The problem now is that with the more lightly loaded transformer, the input voltage adjustment does almost nothing to set the meter to...

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

Mains current drawn at different voltages: AC VoltagemA (with lamp)mA (without lamp)107.58.52013143017184021215026266031317041408055539069741009596110128127120n/a187 The current is not significantly different -- differences are probably due to reading the AC voltage on an analog meter and not...

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

If you're interested in the tubes themselves: 5Y3 to the left, type 83 to the right

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

Not wanting to damage the valves, I decided to make a couple of solid state replacements for the 83 and 5Y3 tubes. Luckily I have the appropriate bases on hand. The 4 pin socket had large and small pins (not totally obvious in the previous short. And the innards are decidedly not...

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

Looking at the schematic for the 800K and the 600A, there is a 15k resistor and thankfully they are in the same place. There seems to be quite a few differences in the wiring between these two units. Fortunately, the obvious place to put it is across a switch, and that may explain the shape of...

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

This device came with a be spare resistor 15kΩ measured as 17.3kΩ I'm not sure where it goes, or even if it goes somewhere. First test will be without the valves. Just to test the transformer for shorted turns, or other reasons for smoke that don't rely on any of the rectified rails.

Hickok 800K (or is it 600A)

I have a Hickok 800K that I'm getting back into working condition. It has a sticker nothing that it's "factory wired - 600A circuits". The paper roll is removed in this picture as I was cleaning the contacts on the switches and didn't want to damage it. The power cord was in awful...

    COVID-19

My city has just recorded a single case and will be going into a hard shutdown in 4 hours. Unfortunately it seems to be one of the easily transmissible variants. Edit: The skuttlebut below seems to be a result of people confusing this incident with a recent case in another state. As far as it...

    RGB LEDs

Well, your eye is most sensitive to green, and depending on the wavelength of the red LED, you're eye is quite insensitive. Also, your perception of brightness is not linear, so this may have some bearing on it. I've connected a LED and resistor across a supercap and it was visible for several...

    RGB LEDs

The LED could be visible in daylight due to UV exciting the phosphor (assuming it's a LED with phosphor)
