    COVID-19

From the country with the 8th best response to COVID-19... This is what an initial lockdown and continued social distancing and enhanced handwashing can do: This site tracks weekly rates of influenza (this includes COVID since it just tracks symptoms). The links in the image are...

CO2 laser tube lifespan - time used vs age of tube?

We're changing tubes on our big laser again. We're getting about 2 years life and a bit over 1000 hours of use in that time. My research indicates we're hitting end of life due to tube age rather than beam time. Re-reading this thread and refreshing my mind that there is He in the gas mixture...

    Padstack footprint

What are you using to design your board? Most software should have this already built in.

very high oscillation down copper wire

Brian is being chased up a tower by roman soldiers. The tower is under construction. He gets to the top and falls... ...only to land on a spaceship. He finds himself in a battle in space where the craft he is on is being chased and fired on by another one. It is hit, and crashes back on...

Re:Is it possible to wire a BLDC PWM motor controller input in parallel??

Yeah, as above. No problems paralleling the inputs, but paralleling the outputs would be bad ju-ju.

Can someone in the US assist me?

Hi I'm trying to purchase some quite small and light things from the US where the seller wants over $US200 to send them to Australia. I believe they will fit inside a USPS flat rate box that will cost under $100 (still expensive, but waaay cheaper). Is anyone happy to have me send something...

    Stage0 - a $20 wind turbine charging AA/AAA rechargeable batteries.

Chris, you deserve a considered response to your post. I see nothing wrong with this for experimentation. However it's really more a toy than a useful product. For simple recharging, I would suggest you look at LIPO batteries. All they require is a current limited voltage source, and there...

    Stage0 - a $20 wind turbine charging AA/AAA rechargeable batteries.

Dear Reader, @Audioguru has trouble distinguishing the concept of "x existing", and the concept of "nothing but x exists". His warnings are so shrill as to counter his message. If he were more measured in his delivery, concentrating on the risks of getting fake products rather than his...

    5v - 2A power supply causing damage

My guess is that the 5V was connected around the wrong way (pinout notwithstanding). My further guess is that they units have a diode across the power inputs and this has now failed short circuit. Measure the resistance across the power pins of the dead devices, and if you read 0 ohms both...

*sigh* Your posts would hold more weight if you exaggerated less.

Oiphy is suggesting wiring a light bulb in series with the power supply to the amplifier.

    Fuse size Question

Use a fast blow. This application does not anticipate short, and normal exceedences of the rated current.

    Fuse size Question

Use a 1A fuse. At 6W the unit will draw more than 500 mA from the 12V supply due to inefficiencies in the step down converter.

    Boxing day sales!

I went searching deep in the innards of the receiver. Look what had happened to these wax paper capacitors! One of those stalagmites is almost a cm tall!

The person who serviced the RA17L left them following notes from 19 dec 1985... Should be a useful reference once I get it recapped.

    Nail Polish Remover PCB

Without watching this I'm going to assume this is the wet toner transfer method. You have to make sure that the toner used in your printer is "melted" with acetone. There are also versions where you disable the fuser on your printer leaving the powdered toner on the surface of your paper.

And finally for tonight the Racal RA17L Top Rear Bottom (main cover in place) Bottom (cover removed) Some further shielding removed. There's a lot of caps that need replacing here. fortunately the layout is really clean and I'm sure it's going to be a lot easier than some point to...

Second unit. I was told this was not working, but probably just required capacitor replacements. Top Bottom Immediately noticable is the lack of a dial lamp on this unit, and also there were marks under pretty much all of the electrolytics. I imagine all have leaked onto the bottom cover...

Back to the SSB converters. This is the one on the left in the group photo. It is marked "OK" Top Bottom Lots of mica caps and film caps. No paper caps at first glance. But quite a few electrolytics to replace.

    Boxing day sales!

Woo hoo! after consulting the documentation, the transformer appears OK. And it has both 120V windings connected in series. It must have been a 240V unit. Not sure why someone butchered the power cable and stuff, but it looks like all they may have done was convince themselves the unit...
