A new concept for the electric kettle

Another thought occurred to me reading down the posts... I agree with Mark on this... at least to accurately measure the temperature of the water, it does require multiple thermometers placed at different levels, and areas... but it really does depend on how accurate you want to be. I am also...

Replacement Fan for Tektronix 2230 Oscilloscope

Well I can say that there are several places you can ask in addition to here, there is a yahoo group called TekScopes, I joined when I had a problem with my recently acquired 475A there were some good responses from there, and excellent ones from here. It may be a good idea to join that group as...

    Kenwood KA-127 amplifier trouble.

Welcome to the forums! There are a few questions I have for you: Do you know what kind of a screen it has? I did a bit of googling and it appears that it is a VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display). Now, I could be wrong here, so I would need you to confirm.... If you follow the link, it may...

    Electronics Mortuary

Wow that's a lot of cash! But industrial equipment does also have to cost a lot, because its gotta be able to take the beating.... at least that's what I would imagine anyway.

    Motherboard capacitor

Yeah, I figured the currency was different, but I can still get a pretty exact size :-). As far as it goes, that tip may be a little big for that specific task but that's okay as long as you heat up the lead sufficiently enough it should still do the trick. No worries, and good luck :-) Matt-

    Motherboard capacitor

Well from experience I would say you should be okay with that particular model, and RadioShack uses a kind of generic one you can find out there... though I am not sure what kind of resources you may have available there in Australia. If you can take a shot of the back side of the...

    Motherboard capacitor

Not a bad one... helpful for some of the larger pads you may run in to, and having the bulb on the handle can be very handy, though depending on the motherboard, you may still have to get it hotter. Matt-

    Motherboard capacitor

I fully agree with Res, I have used a 30W in a pinch, but it literally took 3 minutes to de-solder 1 joint... thankfully I didn't do any thermal damage to any of the other components.... I was probably close. I would defiantly be as careful as possible when de-soldering in small places. There...

    Another mad idea

Jacko- No, but there have been several times that I have traveled and visited areas where the cell modem beat the hotel wifi, or there was no wired broadband provider available. Dave- Believe me, I'd love to swap with you, at least for a little while.... call it a holiday if you will :-)

    Another mad idea

I agree with Steve, you defiantly need some data, in my application I did need a parabolic reflector, but this is because I was working with the 2.4ghz frequency spectrum with a lower power transceiver. NOTE: my project was a proof of concept using wifi at more extreme ranges (for the time)...

    Another mad idea

This kind of thing has been done quite a few times before, and I have seen some interesting results. What I have personally done (this was a while ago, details may be sketchy): - I went down to my local fish market and got a box (it was around 40cm x 80cm x 10cm) these boxes are great for...

    RJ12 Phone Jack help

The link that Dave has put up is excellent, this gives both new and old wiring standards/color codes. RJ-12= 6 conductor, 3 lines (3 pair), if you have more conductors (wires) than that, then you may have a UTP LAN cable/Ethernet Cable (UTP = Unshielded Twisted Pair, LAN = Local Area Network)...

    Jim Williams - Analog Super-Guru/Super-Geek

I thought I would post this here, as its not really a dire need for anyone to look at, but recentyl there have been some sad passing(s), and there have been a couple that may have gone unnoticed. I know this is a little late, as Jim Williams (Analog circuit super-guru) passed in June of this...

Poor Mystic finds a new direction; thank you all!

You will defiantly be missed here, but I gotta say from the standpoint of one music lover to another, good luck, and I'm sure you will do well :-) Matty-

    electronic pollution ?

Sounds kinda like when my furnace kicks on for the first time of each year (which it has already done!). I get the nasty smell and a funky taste in my mouth for the first few times... maybe when his CRT is heating up its burning off some nasty dust... Just a thought... I'm with alfa on this...

    Oscilloscope advice

A good scope is never useless! I'm still VERY new to using one, but I can tell you with even my limited experience, that if it works, then there is defiantly a good use for it. One piece of advise that I got and I will share, get some good probes, and some not so good probes for your scope, so...

    testband

After doing a little bit of research, from what I understand there are actually 9 bits, BUT It also depends on what kind of parallel port you have and what mode its in. if you are using a fairly new port (like from a newer computer) it should have all of the modes available to it. I'm not sure...

    Damaged Multimeter probe.

Well, I know from doing that myself by accident once.... that as long as your meter is still okay, the small chip in the probe itself should not make any difference on the measurement, though I will say, it may make it slightly more difficult to get a measurement, depending on how big the chip is.

Old Guitar Effect Buttons Won't work

Have you tried playing with the switches themselves (like not using the plastic top piece) and get the same results? If so I would suggest replacing the switches, I've done some work on stuff like these before, there is nothing special about the switch, and that's part of the problem.... the...
