    Personally I would never use lead free solder. It is crap and WILL cause fragile joints, I don't care what the manufacturers say. There is probably a reason why the defence forces around the world are exempt for RoHS of solder. Get some good old resin core solder and a small tin of resin flux.

    I think this device is advanced compared to a 7812. As Muhammad says there is no need for a transformer so compared to older style powersupply modules thats pretty advanced. And agricultural just means thrown together or bread boarded type construction. Maybe a bit of an Australianism.

    Well I think this could be a bit of a language missunderstanding. I would probably consider this to be sophisticated in as much as it is all in one and not agricultural having 50 discrete components. I think Ante maybe confusing sophisticated with complex.

    I personally would try and head towards the Military R&D area. Pick a relatively new technology and go down that path. Computer engineers and general hardware engineers a dime a dozen. Unless you are extremely outstanding in the field you will just be another sheep.
