    sawzall plug help?

yeah if you are in the states, the gold colored screw takes the black wire, the silver looking screw takes the white and you guessed it, the green screw takes the green wire.

    Identify part on tray motor

yeah because to change direction in a DC motor requires you change the polarity of the voltage applied to it. Seems way to overly complex to run a solenoid to active reverse gear. A sensor would make more sense to be honest.

I might be the only one here, but I think I want to hear this story. :D

    Device questions

You are gonna need to learn some soldering skills if you start using very small parts. Might want to check out how others do this so you get an idea before you order all these parts and find it difficult to assemble them.

Circuits in Parallel and Series... Breaking it down!

it might help to think of batteries, if a load always consumed as much current as was available then a battery would never last very long. But, we know from experience that depending on the load the same battery will last longer with a smaller load current.

    SPDT switch connected to keyboard?

I would think so from watching that youtube video. Anyone else, like steve etc, remember that guy that wanted to make foot controls for his music thing? He would probably enjoy watching this video.

Circuits in Parallel and Series... Breaking it down!

No, a load will only sink as much current as is necessary from the power supply. For the most part, it is better to have more current available then the load consumes when it comes to power supplies.

    switch for my room

Harald has spelled it out very clearly, how much more instruction do you need? The hard part now is the software to interface with the parallel port. If the OP feels like it, he may wish to contribute that file for others to see.

    Heat proof mains cable

Don't you have one of those stands to use to keep the iron out of harms way? I can't see how you are burning the cord while using the iron. Oh well, patience is a virtue, maybe one day you will figure it out. LOL Don't have to be so cranky either, nothing to be sorry about, just take it on the...

Circuits in Parallel and Series... Breaking it down!

Yes, but as timothy has stated, you will not get more then 5W out of a 5W power supply. This is why sizing of components is so vital to the functionality of the circuit. Every aspect of a circuit needs to be sized properly, right down to the power supply that is supplying the load.

    Heat proof mains cable

When I first read this I thought he meant that he kept melting the cable with the soldering iron

    Simple tach for my lathe

If you heat it only to the point where the solder melts and the part slips out of the hole then the hard part is done and you won't hurt it one bit. 30W iron I think would do the job nicely.

Inductance/capacitance meter off on the measurements

Since it is made in china and they claim 1% tolerance, I wonder how many 1% tolerant components they use on the device itself?

Inductance/capacitance meter off on the measurements

20% of 680 still leaves you at 544, so that is still within 20% tolerance. Would be better to know for a fact what the specs of the part is you are measuring before calling it crap. but the ebay listing says they will make it right, prove to him it is junk and he will probably hook you up...

Inductance/capacitance meter off on the measurements

what is the tolerance of the inductor? 10% is 68 They do come in 20% tolerances as well

    Making a 5v digital signal

It may work and it may not for your particular problem. Cheap enough to try at least. I don't pretend to understand vehicle timing circuits in the least bit.

Yes, read my edited post above and look at the image, the formula is right there.
