The thing is, because they are analogue, you get much more definition from vinyl. I have some identical copies of albums in Vinyl and CD. I much prefer the Vinyl recordings for reasons stated. As for the sound stage, it does make a difference whether they are on Vinyl or CD.

    6.3vac heater windings

Firstly. I have listened to many many vinyl recording over the last 70 years or so and ran a mobile disco in the 1970's, played in a band through the 80's and have built many speaker systems and designed and built many power amps for both Hi Fi and band use. I had to train my ears for building...

    6.3vac heater windings

Old vinyl records have a wider bandwidth than you are insinuating. And they do sound better than CD's. They generally have a superior sound stage as well. I can remember experiments with quadrophonic sound in the seventies. This required a bandwidth of at least 50KHz.

Which Soldering iron should I get please?

Most speakers use spade terminals either 6mm or 4.8mm. You would be better off buying a crimp tool and the appropriate connectors. Soldering joints creates creates a fracture junction and in a high vibration situation may break. This is what I use and have done so for many years. The crimp...

    Reduce LED Brightness

On the internet thingy you can buy variable LED dimmers that use PWM. They are mostly made in China (Yuk) and are quite cheap. I have 2 running under cupboard LED strip lights. They can be varied from almost off to full on. Have a look on Ebay or Amazon. See link below for the sort of thing I am...

Switch between parallel charge and series load

If you are going to invest in a charger, I think you may be better off investing in a decent regulated power supply as it would be a lot less trouble. A properly regulated power supply should be devoid of hum. You would then be able to then leave it permanently connected. The hum could be...

    555 timer ic problem

It's easy enough to calculate the period using the sums on page 10 of Texas Instruments Datasheet. See link below for the sheet. Don't forget that the value of C in the calculations is expressed in Farad's. Alternatively you could use an oscilloscope to measure the period(s) of your circuit...

    Power transistor identification

Have tried them all over the last 50 years or so. Never liked the hot vacuum sucker as it could cause a lot of damage very quickly, nor the hot air devices for use with SMD parts.

    Power transistor identification

The best way to get those transistors off of the board is to cut the legs close to the transistors then with the aid of a pair of tweezers and a very hot solder iron, the legs can be removed without causing any / much damage. If you don't have a good solder sucker or solder wick then the holes...

    555 astable

I suggest that you have a good read of the datasheet, see link below, and then try some of the circuits contained in it. I also urge you to dispense with all the pots and use fixed resistors until you are familiar with the device. LM555 Timer datasheet (Rev. D)
