PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Hi Ivan, Sorry for the delay in posting this but I needed to resolve an issue with J1and P1 on my schematic. My schematic editor/spice simulator (Tina) provides the schematic symbol you see but to invisibly connect them they provide an "Additional Nodes" property with absolutely no help files...

Do you want the GSM or Phone to share the same 12V supply too? If so what's the operating voltage of the GSM or Phone that you're using? Chris

Sorry about that. That link is for your motor flyback protection diode. This is the link to the 4N33M. http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/149/4N33M-1006488.pdf Chris

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Ivan, if you haven't found the datasheet yet here's a link. http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/345/10a05-10a10-16323.pdf It's very easy to use. Chris

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Hi Spyder, Thanks for the PM and critical information you provided. Now that I have a clearer picture of what you're designing I can tell you that your PIR Sensor / Switch makes little sense for use in your prototype. An Optoisolator would be far more logical. After all, you're not using it to...

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Spyder, I'm well versed in the psyche and basic nature of Dogs. The vast majority of them will eat as much as you give them. They'll do it as though it's the last meal they'll ever get! ,,Like light speed! If you don't stop supplying it they'll keep woofing it down until they explode! There's...

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Spyder, I just arrived home after being out of town. While I'm modifying the schematic please tell us what this motor is driving. More to the point, .. What is the scope of you're project? Chris

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Later today I'll redraw the circuit using a MOSFET. BTW, what value electrolytics do you have on hand? I ask because you can tame your charger output with a 1000uF or larger. That said you could very well have exceeded the max voltage of your PIR. If you have a large electro you will see the...

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

OK, this is not a substitute for a proper supply but once you have one and if you still have spike issues you can try this circuit. I replaced the 7808 with a simple RC filter that should tame any spike noise on you supply. Making R1 higher, say 10Ω, will help filter things even more but its...

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

This is an issue that I should have nailed down early in this topic because your voltage readings made little sense. It's no wonder that you're getting such weird voltage readings! Chargers are not normally filtered because batteries don't need a filtered supply to charge them. I'm on another...

    Yup a typo. C1, C2 should be 0.1uF. Chris

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Spyder, you don't need a regulator for what you're doing at all. Your PIR says it's good from 5V to (I think) 24V. The reason I used the 7808 in the circuit I posted is because it does a really good job of filtering out garbage on the supply line. Which I believe your motor is doing an excellent...

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

OK, you posted your question while I was typing my goof. You could use a 8V relay if you can find one but I doubt that they're easy to source. Replacing the relay with a MOSFET or solid state relay would work too. My software is Tina. Gotta go... Chris

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Opps! I made a serious mistake. My schematic indicates a 12V relay but it's being driven by only 8V!. Unfortunately I'm heading out and probably won't be able to correct this goof till I get back. Sorry, Chris

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Since your end goal is to drive a windshield wiper motor this schematic was designed with that in mind. That said it should easily drive your toy motor if it's rated a 12V. Your 12V power supply should be well filtered and capable of handling the high run and much higher start current. It...

PIR operated DC motor project odd behaviour help

Personally, I think this is a spike noise problem that's driving your sensor nuts. It's getting late here but tomorrow I'll draw something up for you to try. Chris

List of materials and tools for creating a BIOS chip reader / board with USB and DVI outputs?

If you don't want an OS with this then IMHO you'd be prudent to abandon these two requirements. They are both Driver/DLL/OCX based technologies that are dumb as a box of rocks without an OS to communicate with them. You'd be better of using an older technology that relies far less on computing...
