    Transmitter circuit operation explanation

Ha, if I read that correctly, soon we'll be able to carbon date you like a fossil! :D "Trevorsaur" (humanusbipodus) I like it! It rolls right off the tongue. Chris

Noob Soldering Problem - Which Wire To Use?

Hop, I will put my wire stripping skills up against any of the contraptions developed of the last 50 years. I've used the same Miller "V" groove stripper ,...like forever. No nicks no cut strands. And I'm still FAST! :D BTW, nail polish (I like enamel) works pretty good too but doesn't hold up...

    Transmitter circuit operation explanation

Well Trevor, you're not as bold as I am (birthday in profile) but your secret is now out. :p Chris

    Transmitter circuit operation explanation

All components within the red border form the resonant tank circuit. R6 affects the "Q" of the tank as well as providing a DC path (that the gate needs) to GND. Neglecting the Gate to Source and Gate to Drain capacitance all remaining components affect the frequency of the oscillator. C5, C6...

Can someone help me with explaining a part of this circuit?

Where did you find this circuit? Is this topic related to your other topic concerning the 4017? Chris

    Dryer's heat fluctuates?

I'm not mentioning any names but that was damn out of line, over the top, CRUDE & RUDE! Chris

    Two seven segment displays

This is clearly a class assignment which belongs here.... https://www.electronicspoint.com/forums/electronics-homework-help.106/ Once this is posted there you won't find anyone here at EP that will do your homework for you but you certainly will receive help if and only if you show initiative...

    Transmitter circuit operation explanation

Actually Trevor, it's a classic Colpitts for sure but since the output signal is picked off the Drain I think I'd have to classify it as a Common Source. Chris

    Water detector with NE555

It's fortunate that the electrode current is going to be <90uA otherwise you would be remiss if dismissing this post. Chris

    Temperature sensor

Are those photos of what you built? If so, nice work! Internally I see 3 conductors. Are they (1 GND), (2 Heater Element) and (3 Thermistor +)? Did the ebay seller return your request for data? I really can't tell from the photos but here's another thought. In the early days of the Telegraph...

That was quite enlightening. Thank you for pointing me there. Chris

    Testing capacitors

Steve, that pdf is confusing. On the first page it discusses FiG 1 schematic and then points the reader to FIG 2 that includes a Diode (Ds). The text further discusses the purpose of Ds but it doesn't exist? Chris

Help with simple circuit; wireless torch

After re-reading your first post I don't think that an inverter is going to solve your problem. If I understood that post you're saying that increasing the throttle turns on and continues brightening the LEDs but at some point any further throttle increase shuts them off. Is this correct? Chris

Detecting a 12v stepped current - automotive DLR

My recommendation is not to mess with it. If it's a new car (as you say) then you will definitely void your warranty. Chris

    Envelope detector design

I really don't know how to respond to that. I simply can't wrap my head around the term "Ultrasonic" and 5MHz, in the same sentence. 5MHz is well into the low RF spectrum. Please post a link to your transducer. Chris

    power station question

I'm bummed out on the double negative thing. I wanted to post that reply. Regarding syncing phase of parallel sources I would think that voltage would have to be matched also. If not the dominant source would back feed into the lower voltage source. Or am I missing something? Chris

    Testing capacitors

Yes, my old heathkit LCR bridge provided leakage tests with a rotary switch that stepped the test voltage up to 600VDC. Actually, leakage isn't difficult to test. All it requires is a dc voltage source near but below the cap's max rating, current limiting resistor and an Ammeter capable of...
