Looking for an unusually large capacitor or a replacement

Has your old Cap' got a manufacturers name and type number on it? Edit: Ignore this post. You have a picture in you first post. See post further on.

Looking for an unusually large capacitor or a replacement

A 2 pin device will suffice provided the Pins are of the same pitch and the can is not too large in diameter.

    LC parallel tank circuit

First of all. The voltage across A very simple way you resonant circuit will be at a maximum when it is at its resonant frequency. A simple way to arrive at them is to calculate the L and C values by assuming that their impedances are 50Ω each. Do the sums with the known factors ie Z...

Stage Line 500W amp repair project

You have to log into the Farnell UK website and then enter the part number in the search box.

Stage Line 500W amp repair project

Yes except for the last one. It's very expensive. Use Farnell P/No8126542.

Stage Line 500W amp repair project

C1 and C2 just have different values. C1 will probably be ceramic of about 50V or so. The actual voltage value is not particularly important. High voltage types will be more expensive. C2 can be from 15V upwards. It just depends on what you can find. Where are you looking for your bits? (No smut...

4 pole rotary is fine. You can get relatively cheap ones with 12 ways with a stopper that you can use to set it to any number that you choose. Not wire wound resistors, they will be inductive. Not at all what you want. Metal film is fine.

The ones on ebay are very expensive. You could use a TL074 instead which is available from RS components. You could also get the rest of your bits from them as well. I originally chose the TL034 as its O/P goes from rail to rail but on reflection that is probably not necessary. The only reason...

It wil be good practice. Have you read and understood the notes?

See attached schematic for your scope probe conditioning circuit. It will run from a single 9V battery. Read the notes carefully. You should build it up one a piece of Veroboard and put it in your Ali' box with a switch to turn it on and off.

Yes to both. Don't buy anything yet.

Because the input impedance of your sound card is a bit of an unknown, it could affect the calibration of the scope leads. Sig Gen inputs are normally 1MΩ switchable to 50Ω. I expect the I/P of your sound card is somewhat less than that. You may need to buffer the Scope leads. It's not...

They look OK. Just need to get a breakout box made up. You will need two of these as well plus a small box to mount them in such as the ones below. A small rubber grommet should also be used to protect the incoming lead from your sound card. BNC Chassis Panel Mount Insulated Female Socket...

Just seen you suggestion in #496. I think you would be better off sorting out which wires are which and going the route described in #497. You also have to consider keeping the input screened which is best achieved as described.

Stage Line 500W amp repair project

Ok. Just seen you Pics. Does make thing a bit more difficult. I suspect you would need to separate the input and output into 2 distinct circuits. You could break it out into a small Plastic or Ali' box with 2 BNC sockets in it. I assume the Sig Gen is output via the headphone O/P?

The probes will have attenuators in them. You can get them with 10:1, 100:1 or 100:1 all usually switchable between straight through and attenuated. If you can find some relatively cheap ones then buy a selection, it will save having to cobble together and calibrate your own. It would also make...

Don't know where you are based but, have a look on Farnell's web site. You will probably find what you are looking for on there.

Stage Line 500W amp repair project

I assume the input to your sound card is via a 2.5 or 3.5mm jack. Ideally you would use some screened cable to make up and input lead. Another alternative would be to use a BNC to 2.5mm jack plug that you can plug into your sound card and then you can use a regular scope lead with attenuators...

Looks interesting. If it's a free download then give it a try. If it's not what you want you can uninstall it and you have lost nothing. Have a go!!
