    Laser toner refills

I suppose the refill quality is directly proportional to how reputable the service company is. My Samsung's Yellow toner cartridge was refilled a few years ago by a small business, where the guy installed a 'reset' chip. Sadly, the cartridge would not work, giving "unknown or invalid product"...

Too many printers - not enough ports?

Hi all. I've just invested in a new hi-res color inkjet printer, which now makes a total of 2 lasers and one inkjet. However, the (Gigabyte) motherboard only has 4 ports, 3 already in use, the fourth used for my printer. The printers each have their unique advantages, so if possible, I want to...

    PCB layout software?

As a fairly new user of DIPTRACE, I found this free download is also good, with optional auto-placement, auto-routing, ratlines, manual placement and routing, and export to multiple formats including DXF, Gerber and NC-Drill. Better to start simple to 'learn the ropes' then move up to more...

    Squawk Box

Leaf switches could be some oxidization on contacts - spray with Servisol (etc) contact-cleaner. As KE suggested, try replacing caps, especially if bulging dome syndrome or leaking is found. If you have spare caps of equal value lying around, first try temporarily paralleling each one across its...

    Gcse project NEED HELP

I=V/R >> R=V/I So add all forward voltages for total LED's in a series leg (multiply if all Vf equal). Subtract this total Vf from supply Vs. As current is equal throughout the leg, the minimum series resistance can now be calculated.

    VCR Cover Causing Noise

Although most VCR's appear to have only 2 mains feed-wires, I found that earthing the cover of my JVC HR-J657-MS via a cover-screw to a cold-water feed eliminated occasional noisy video streaks that would appear on playback or recordings. Whether this was outside interference or internal noise...

    Loud Bell/Ringer for Mobile/Cell Phone

I don't know if the Ringmaster or Algo 8180 have this design, but my idea is to have a small mike mounted in a cellphone cradle, with input sensitivity control, to avoid ambient sounds triggering it. The relatively loud mobile ring (rectified audio) would trigger an alarm circuit via thyristor gate.

    Convert CSV to Wav

Nice one. In the past I tried creating 8-bit RAW data patterns using a hex-editor (Hexcalibur), but very time-consuming. Several CSV attempts were done using bytes 20H to 7EH, excluding field-separator 2CH (comma) and other symbols such as + @ and / . The RAW imported data was then normalized to...

Need cover housing for a speaker of 30mm

You could also try pawn-shops or yard-sales for miniature satellite speaker boxes (usually cheapo plastic housings), or use plywood, hole-saw, and speaker-cloth to construct a pair.

Hi AK. Either/or OK as workstation/desk is in a corner of the same lounge.

Want the name of 2D game accompanied with the EFY CD

Hopefully the game (probably XP platform) can still run on your (newer?) OS. I have dozens of CA and older PCF disks where only a few still run on W7.

    Electronics Mortuary

..This reminds me of the once I tried to solder leads directly on to the stainless steel/nickel of a 3V hearing-aid battery for a helium balloon project. "Come on solder, flow...." - BANG! Stung face a bit, but luckily shrapnel missed the eyes.

{computer}: How to add a monostable to PC PWR/Reset button?

Thanks for suggestions, guys. The system is fairly "old" at 3 years, a core-2-duo Pentium with 4Gigs Dual Ram. Recently spring-cleaned the 500GB boot drive and 250GB secondary which made little difference. The external SSD is 1TB which I use mostly for seldom-used storage. The slow-down seemed...

    Cleaning Soldering Iron Tips

A damp (folded) facecloth is my current flavor, with extra cleaning occasionally helped with a quick dip in soldering flux then immediately wiped off. In mislaid facecloth emergencies, a white un-printed corner of newspaper works quite well for wiping excess solder. At other times, a thorough...

{computer}: How to add a monostable to PC PWR/Reset button?

Hi all at EP. Foreword: I'm planning to design a "System Ready" beeper for my PC at home. The reason is that it takes a frustrating 6-7 minutes from power-up to boot, load OS and do AV & Sys checks. After about 7 minutes maximum the activity drops to normal. Instead of waiting at the PC an...

    Ideas to start my project.

Left in hot car / possibly asleep or already passed out: IR would probably trigger each time empty car upholstery heated up. Doppler sensing may work if it senses fairly fast movement - I've accidentally triggered my alarm several times when parked somewhere with engine off and doors closed. I...
