    Fence flasher

You could also use inductive coupling, with 'hot' wire as the primary, coiled about 10-20 or more turns (depending on total Vf rating of LED's), around the secondary 'core', which is a single wire grounded at one end and un-grounded side feeding the series led array. Alternatively, an EMOSFET...

    P. A. sounds system with generator

If you have the make and model of the amplifier, try download a PDF manual from the manufacturer or a website such as manualslib.com This manual will explain all, including what voltage or voltage settings to use.

How do I build a underwater Infrasonic (10 -30 Hz) projector?

A motor-driven piston, top end open with plastic or metal rod attached to piston face. Free end of rod fixed to large rubber diaphragm, sealed onto cutout hole of tank. I once built the above from an old car-tyre-inflation compressor pump, as plastic piston-rings were worn out. The vessel used...

    Comedy Thread

SAME AGAIN I was doing some early morning fishing at a dam recently. Unfortunately, the worms I was using didn't seem to be attracting many bites. I was ready to pack it up, when I noticed a cobra pounce on a small frog in the nearby grass. Figuring that the snake couldn't strike while the prey...

Have blind cat - need someone to build plug in device

At https://www.electronicspoint.com/projectlogs/low-drain-long-life-audio-clicker.163/ you'll see a fairly simple build which will hopefully do the job. At a 1-per-second 'click' rate, rather than a continuous tone, the circuit should run for about 1-2 years. As output pulses are low voltage...

    Low-drain Long-life audio clicker

Unfortunately, the LM3909 was discontinued as new LED parameters were generally not compatible. Apparently, the LM3909 could blink a red 5mm 2V 20mA for about 3 months until 1.5V battery ran flat. I still have 2 of these little workhorses in my stock. :D:D

    Frankenstein's Components.

Frankenstein's-components -- Old coils: Several years ago, while purchasing components at our electronic components retailer, I noticed dozens of coils and solenoids (some vintage) on a mid-floor display table. As they were fairly cheap (stock clearance), I bought a whole lot of various sizes...

Are cross-referencing answers to own posts allowed?

Hi moderators. Some forums frown upon "self-promoting", or suggesting that a question-poster visit / view the answerer's related contribution on another forum (but still same website). Is this OK to do on EP, in certain cases? More specifically, a poster has requested help with building an audio...

    Sound board not working

I may have generalized too much on the "DC won't shock" bit. My point was, at the DC level of about 21-27 volts, (soundbar), which by itself is too low to be shocking, if his daughter experienced a true "shock", and he discovered an exposed wire, it sounds more likely that AC mains or AC...

    Question about air ionizers

First scrounged EP site, no ionizers seen, so this post from elsewhere may offer some guidance. I also once thought of building one just for the challenge/ the fun of it, but as @shrtnd said, if your'e DIY for cost-cutting, it's probably not economically viable. However, if just for the...

Microphone advise for monitoring heart sounds in animals under anesthesia

He probably means although the fundamental (beat) is at heartbeat rate, the acoustic resonance is around 50-200Hz (Lo-fr Bass drum).

    Visible light

Interesting and fascinating topic! I forget now which website or forum I saw this on around 2017, but this was the answerer's generalized reply (extracted notes from screenshots as printing/saving was disabled): --- Although electrical EM radiation and visible light may theoretically be made...

    Visible light

From what I've read up previously (open to correction): Visible light is made up of photons. Photons travel in packets called 'quanta'.. (i think). They are unaffected by magnetic fields. A photon is a massless particle, with higher energy as frequency increases. The electron-volt energy ev is...

What value is this SMD yellow Tantalum capacitor?

The 1u53 reading sounds correct for capacitance of C155 (1.5uF). C=capacitor 15=pF digits 5=multiplier 15x(10^5) or 1 500 000 pF. The A478 (if cap) if using the same method would be 47pF x (10^8) = 4700uF!! Obviously too large for the small SMD component. Thinking that 'A' could be "anode" of...

    Sound board not working

DC (Direct Current) does not oscillate, so will not shock. Unless your AC/DC power pack is faulty and allowing AC (Alternating Current) to enter the DC-only circuitry, which would also explain why amp no longer works (blown components). Which wire did you fix, and how? Maybe reversed polarity or...

What to Do With a Lot of Salvaged Speakers?

Maybe you could network several identical speakers to create a virtual "larger diaphragm" driver, feeding a wooden labyrinth enclosure. Books such as @Bobnoes mentioned have construction details. As for surround, it depends on the source device. Some amps have line outputs (usually RCA phono...

What to Do With a Lot of Salvaged Speakers?

I did a similar experiment long ago, (1970's) using a diaphragm-ripped 80W 4" 4-ohm Pioneer car speaker. The center-cone was epoxied to a small plastic tube, itself epoxied to a square of Paxolin (PCB). Four springs from old 'Ding-dong' doorbells supported a salvaged voice-coil wired to a preamp...
