    There are many capacitors in a monitor so in this instance assuming the buzzing is coming from the power supply section. One can do a visual check to see if any are bulged on the top or leaking as an indication of a bad cap. How competent are you at electronic repair...?

    You need to supply the current drain to work out an equivalent battery capacity. If it currently takes 2 amp for 10 hours (20Ah) then probably a 12v car battery.

    You might try giving the interior of the pot (if accessible via the terminals) a squirt with contact cleaner ( or crc...wd40) first. A good spin back and forth a few times after that usually clears the problem.
