2V high current power supply for homopolar motor

Please keep to one thread for discussion of the same project. I've merged the threads into one and given it a sensible title. Why not just use a 2V lead acid battery in the first place? 2V is the nominal voltage for a lead acid cell and can be bought from many suppliers. If you don't have a...

To be honest I was tempted to delete this but decided not to be a nazi moderator. Kevin, What are you asking? Please read Wikipedia before asking such questions.

Solar and Batteries and LED's questions

That's right, the forward voltage of the LEDs is not very well controlled drops as they heat up, good you got there in the end. The trouble is you haven't accounted for the fact that the battery voltage will drop as it discharges. The LEDs will probably not light if the voltage across them is...

Solar and Batteries and LED's questions

The battery won't fully charge at that voltage, to float charge a lead acid battery the voltage needs to be kept around 13.8V. No, you still don't understand that LEDs need a current limited supply not a constant voltage supply, read the Wikipedia article. Take out the diode and replace it with...

    Direct neutralization

Please post a link to an article, I Googled and couldn't find much. The only free article I could find is dated 1955 and is about values (toobes as they say in America).

Solar and Batteries and LED's questions

Odyssey make a wide range of batteries so I'm afraid that doesn't mean much. That's what happens when an LED is connected up to a battery without a resistor. No, I don't think you understood what I was saying about LEDs needing a constant current source before. The LEDs should not be connected...

Solar and Batteries and LED's questions

What voltage and capacity are the batteries? LEDs require a constant current source not voltage so connecting a diodes in series to power LEDs is not the correct way of doing it. Your best bet is to connect two or three LEDs in series and run from 12V rather than one run from the USB converter...

Help me make a really cool Halloween costume!

The CD4017 can be cascaded to give more outputs. Unfortunately an output is lost, for every stage that's added, two counters only give 19 outputs so you'll need four ICs for 30 outputs. Here's an example: http://saint.419.removed.us/runlit.html Here's another but goodness knows why the...

    Monitor signal over time

Yes, use a microcontroller such as the PIC12F508 or PIC10F200. Programmers are cheap, so are the ICs and if you find assembler too hard there are high level languages such as C and BASIC available.

    0-30 Vdc Stabilized Power Supply

If you mount components on the copper side, you should cover the long leads with insulation to prevent them from short circuiting on the tracks. I don't see what's so hard about mounting them on the non-copper side. I don't even bother planning all of the connections. I just roughly lay out the...

2V high current power supply for homopolar motor

Sorry if I was a little harsh. That looks like it will work but I do question why not use a standard DC or AC motor? You could try using a ball bearing for the brush but I'm not sure how much it will minimise the friction losses. I wouldn't expect to see anything through the 'scope, except...

Making a screen from tri-colour LED lights

It's just an LED display. The LEDs are normally multiplexed to save pins on the microcontroller: Charlieplexing is one way of doing it . Some links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED_display http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlieplexing

    Ni-Cad Battery Reconditioner Circuit

Let's assume it's not practical to replace them with L-ions or NiMH cels. Ni-cad batteries also have advantages over other chemistries: higher power density and and tolerate trickle charging more than NiMH. I think he wants a zapper to melt the crystals. There is no circuit, you just have to...
