    Google before posting

Hi Scott, My personal opinion is; I will answer any question I can unless it’s obvious that it is someone’s homework or school project. I think that kind of questions should be solved the “hard” way or the person asking will not learn anything. 8)

How to make an audio console's power supply better?

Hi Nid, I would say the cap is a goner! As Audioguru says; “Replace your hot capacitors with ones with a high ripple current rating and a low ESR.”.

    Regulated power supply

Hi Mucha, Welcome to our forum. I would use a power resistor as a shunt; one example here: http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/setpage.pl?http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/dyndok.pl?lang=en&dok=9320.htm The resistor item number 60-619-07 is 0.05 Ohms and will work fine as a shunt. If you like to...

Hi jeevan, The tracking technique in the modern DVD player are more advanced and sophisticated than in the older CD players. So, yes I think the DVD player has a much better chance to interpret the data in the track of the old and scratched CD disk. 8)

    Cleaning potentiometers

Hi Nid, Well, “video drum cleaning spray” was the description a couple of years back. Today I use this: http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/partDetail.jsp?SKU=604082&N=401 The WD40 can will not blow in your hand as long as there is pressure inside, the flame will keep some distance to...

    Increased voltage!

I remember when dad brought home the first color set, it was just before the 1968 Olympics in Mexico. The color technique was not really ready by the time and when somebody dressed in bright read colors moved fast the color smeared over the screen. It was a Philips set and it kept the room warm...

    Cleaning potentiometers

Hi Audioguru, I agree, WD40 should not be used for this purpose. We also have another similar “drug” called 5-56 which have the same effect, collecting dirt and making things worse. As I mentioned before I use video drum cleaning spray for this with some success this leaves a non sticky, dry...

    Increased voltage!

Hi Decade, I don’t do TV-sets anymore but you are wrong about only the tube era and as I told before “the chassis sometimes carry’s mains voltage”. The voltage in chassis phenomena was way into hybrids and semi sets too, not on all but quite a few. However I don’t know about Japanese sets since...

    Bass Extender

It is not any government or embassy who will react on this matter. It is the copyright owner and their lawyers who see no borders just an IP address and will come down on an illegal user like a tonne of bricks no matter where you are.  8)

    Mobile camera!

Many digital cameras have a larger receptive spectrum than the human eye this is why we can see IR through a camera!

    Increased voltage!

Hi Guys, A TV set doesn’t have a ground lead but still the chassis sometimes carry’s mains voltage. If it does just pull the plug and insert it again the other way and the chassis is “grounded” through the neutral lead.  (Well, at least where I live)! 8)
