    Single phase motor

If there is a centrifugal switch in the motor for the start winding, one should show open circuit at sufficient rpm. M.

    Single phase motor

The start capacitor is the 250uf the run is the 40uf Usually the run winding is the lowest resistance. The highest the start winding. If you wanted to confirm the start winding you could always back drive the motor with a drill etc, and measure with ohmeter when the open circuit occurs which is...

Help From Anyone In The Sparky Trade

I see you are in UK. Don't they have formal apprenticeship's there now for the trades? Back when I took mine I served a 6yr apprenticeship under qualified tradesmen, with one day release a week for Technical college. It is very hard to obtain valid training without the practical experience...

Need Datasheet for New Product Engineering P/N 812-203 (relay?)

Looks like a very old style relay, if you need to replace it it may be quicker to do a little reverse-engineering, and if it is shot, open it up to help with what you need, you may have to get creative with a means of mounting a miniature relay in place of the old one. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

Is there a link to this?? Also where a long distance/stretch is required on by a Sensor, a small button magnet can be placed at either end of the sense position and a latch/unlatch SS400 type could be used, the magnet either end would be opposite polarity. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

I don't quite understand the reason for placing magnet in front of the Hall effect? Surely this will keep it on? Otherwise the Honeywell appear almost the same in function. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

If you find you have to invert the signal, you could use a 2n7000 between the SS400 and the Power mosfet. I see you went with a BJT instead of Mosfet? My 1st choice for supplier is Digikey. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

The resistor is also the load for the open collector SS400 NPN output. The Mosfet is voltage controlled, as opposed to a bi-polar transistor, which is a current switched device. so it just requires voltage bias, the gate voltage switches from 12v to 0v when the SS400 operates. That may make the...

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

In400x series, I keep 1N4007 as they cover just about all eventualities for the range. Although a 1amp rectifier, they take a 30a momentary pulse. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

Ensure you get the Bipolar version of the sensors, in that case the magnet polarity won't matter. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

The R will go to the base = ~10K. Although if using Mosfet it will be G (Gate) instead of B. Otherwise it looks OK in principle. M.

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

I am still a little confused as to your definition of the ground being switched on/off? The SS400 series are NPN output and are termed sink function switching as opposed to source (PNP). But these cannot switch the solenoid direct anyway, they need a Mosfet driver. Maybe a simple sketch on the...

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

Well are the Honeywell items OK or do you need some other type? What is the reason behind :- "The ground wire will be the side being switched on and off with the primary hot all the time". Any particular reason? You say 16 sensors, What and how many trigger the solenoid? There are also magnetic...

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

It is very hard to recommend components for a system without know anything apart from a few scant details, For e.g. the mechanics and the environment they are in will probably decide the physical nature of them. AC or DC motor? Size? What is its exact function? .Is the unit for use in a domestic...

Hall effect with 5 amp draw

If you want a compact solution there is the Honeywell SS400 series proximity sensors, these come in three styles, uni-polar, bi-polar and latch/unlatch types. Use a Mosfet on the output to increase the current range to what you need. But if really needing to switch from +ve then you may need PNP...

    Treadmill control board repair.

Yes, that makes it harder to sub a lamp etc for test purposes. You could may be get a local electronic shop to see if they can see any thing and do a cursory test of the mosfets. M.

    Treadmill control board repair.

Generally if the motor looks fine when ran on an automotive battery it should be OK, the mean level of current when starting is around the same level. The other thing to do is try a incandescent lamp in place of the motor IF it does not have a speed sensor wheel. Most likely one of the Mosfet's...
