    Serial communication problem.

I do not understand the last post. Could you please explain it to me ? The example says that 1V @ 1ua = 1gw... that is not correct because wattage is given by the type V * A = W While on the other hand what a microcontroller understands as 1 and what as 0 is not exactly standard or given by...

    Serial communication problem.

I read you sir! It all comes down to what we preceive as logic 0 and logic 1 as also mentioned by other members. :)

    Serial communication problem.

Please take a look at what Chris told me a few years back: post #9 https://www.electronicspoint.com/threads/help-with-data-switch.259040/ "You'll need to process the RS-232 signal. The idle state for RS-232 data is negative, so you need a circuit that detects when it goes positive (data...

    USB to UART serial converter.

Anyway, after connecting it to a pc usb port and transmitting characters the Oscilloscope revealed that the output of the chip is the pin marked as TXD... so the TXD should connect to the RXD of the receiver board or whatever it is that needs the serial from the converter.

    Solder Sucker

Hakko is indeed a fine brand. The ZD-985 is of about the same quality but alot cheaper i think.

    Solder Sucker

I personally bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DISSALDATORE-ZD-985-STAZIONE-PISTOLA-DISSALDANTE-DESOLDERING-STATION-REWORK-GUN-/261894908005?hash=item3cfa272865:g:SVEAAOSwofxUi0Gh It is a pro tool and a bit expensive but in the long run it will compensate you. I use it every day. I am...

    USB to UART serial converter.

Thank you so so much sir Chris for all the effort you have put to pass me knowledge about rs232 and more... Your assistance is highly appreciated.

    Serial communication problem.

Ok. I can short things out if you could spare a little time to make the corrections for me please. If you can, please delete all posts from 68 and below... I will Make a new thread about the USB to UART converter. P.S. Thank you all who wrote about the usb-uart converter and about the max232...

i am exercising the best tactic to destroy a topic :P . Sorry for that people.

    USB to UART serial converter.

I know i am mixing the posts right now but here is the question. According to your diagram Chris, the idle state of the rs232 is 15 volts (or could be up to 18 for hardware rs232 i think) while at the following link Christ clearly states that the idle state of a hardware rs232 is negative. look...

    USB to UART serial converter.

In other words it is a USB to TTL serial converter. It can not accept rs232 level signals. Come to think about it, when i bought it i thought it was usb to rs232 converter and the fact that was not lead me to put it aside.

    USB to UART serial converter.

i was looking at the diagram and cant figure out what the switches are there for also is vin the 3.5V signal output from the converters RXD pin ? R2 and r3 are going to GND right ?

    USB to UART serial converter.

I figured that it could not receive rs2 Yes it does. Thank you for the circuit.

    USB to UART serial converter.

Do you really think that an in series resistor will fix the low impedance problem of the powered off max chip ?

    USB to UART serial converter.

True... In my case the cp2102 and the max3232 concern two different projects. It is just that i didnt want to make an other thread about rs232 :)

    USB to UART serial converter.

I get it now... The question on my post #69 had nothing to do with the problem mentioned in post #1 !!! :) As for the problem mentioned on post 1 a quick fix is the simple transistor inverter circuit like the one on post #61. I dont know ... theese max3232 chips are just acting weird.

    USB to UART serial converter.

Both RXD and TXD give me +3.5 Volts. While i transmit data the TXD pin pulses to 0V which is normal. Why the RXD line gives me +3.5 Volts ? also shouldn't the TXD line be +5 Volts when at idle state ?

    USB to UART serial converter.

Yes i want it to talk to PC serial port. I will connect it on a pc usb port and through TERMITE serial comm program i will transmit characters while i will hook the Oscope to the txd and rxd pins to see which is transmitting. P.S. I do not understand electrobrain's post :( ...

    USB to UART serial converter.

I have one other question for you. About a year ago i bought this USB 2.0 to TTL UART Serial Converter from e-bay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pcs-6Pin-USB-2-0-to-TTL-UART-Serial-Converter-CP2102-STC-Replace-Ft232-/221967504639?hash=item33ae4b54ff:g:ViAAAOSwsB9WCNWw Now how do i wire it up ...
