Sony STR DE505 Receiver, left channel out

1998, to early to trash it :) here under the service manual (2 parts to download) http://www.eserviceinfo.com/index.php?what=search2&searchstring=SONY+FM-AM+PROGRAM+RECEIVER+STR+313S should be a good starting point!

    MOSFET Gate driver IC

You can also bypass the driver by using your microcontroler (guessing 5 volts supplied) to directly drive a so called logic level FET. A query on digikey or mouser site should help.

    adc problem??

I have an article from a electronics now magazine who is very close to you project . No idea about related copyright matters , if agreed by an administrator I can post it.

Why are 0 Ohm resistances connected in a PCB?

I am not very clear too.:) I mean it's cheaper to produce single side PCBs with many 0 Ohm R (acting as top layer tracks) compare to double side PCBs without 0 Ohm R. Be aware that single side PCB can be made with punched FR2 to be compare with drilled FR4. hope it's more clear now.

Why are 0 Ohm resistances connected in a PCB?

They are used as jumper to made cheap single side PCB. The are available in reel which ease automated production. They can also replace a real resistance for various design buiding on the same PCB.

    Part selection help

Cool project indeed ! Yes for the resistors 1/4W ones are OK, for the filters ones I should prefer 1% tolerance. For the electrolytic caps, as the circuit in 12V supplied, you can go for 16V or 25V everywhere (you can maybe have few of them rated at 6 or 10V but the price and the size is almost...

    Help with a toy

The 2 connection plates between batteries are also missing (at least on the pictures). You can build them with small metal plates are scrap them from another battery holder. Hope your son will have fun with the train soon!

Help understanding simple solar charging circuit

Here under the "original" schematic: http://www.electronics-lab.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/battery-charger.jpg The diode is needed but maybe a lower drop schottky will be better.

What is a subtitution for this transistor

Not in my old 80/81 ECA cross reference book. Even the GP prefix doesn't exist. maybe a custom made or "re-stamped" transistor.

    Bat Detector Prototype

You certainly can go for single rail and 9 volts supply. The flip flop can directly be supplied by 9V if you swap them to CD4013 types. the 7805 as 5mA of quiescent current so better to go for a voltage divider followed by a LM358 voltage follower instead (can serve as supply for the 74HC74...

Help understanding simple solar charging circuit

The resistance will vary a lot with the temp. don't remember exact values but certainly something like 10:1 ratio. Concerning the charging circuit caps are also missing at the LM317 Input. you also drop precious energy in the diode. Olivier

    PWM channel to control LED's

Sure, the op amp suggestion is coming from the PWM to DC conversion idea. If we stay in PWM a FET will be nice!

    RF ID cards

144Mhz is reserved for HAM, you probably got a wrong information here. Actual used frequency for RFID (assuming that's what they use) are: ~130Khz, almost "contact" reading ~13.56Mhz around 10Cm reading ~870 MHz the UHF ones few tens of meters reading before buying anything you must...

    PWM channel to control LED's

Steve, If you use a voltage controlled dimmer just test my suggestion, what you can also try is to forget the filter and drive the leds from the op amp directly, the PWM duty should dim the leds. Olivier

    RF ID cards

Hi, you ID cards are probably RFID types. You can't really do tracking with such cards. The maximum reading distance (for the UHF ones) are few tens of meters. What they can do is tracking you when you enter or leave a premises thanks to gates containing a reader. They can have a precision...

    PWM channel to control LED's

Hi, and welcome to this forum. To convert the PWM signal to a DC voltage you need a low pass filter. A simple resistor followed by a cap from the R to the ground should be OK. Then you can use a unity gain buffer to get your 80mA. garden variety op amp can't do that. So I suggest to use a TS922...
