    Seconded. A poor soldered joint may have caused a localised heating issue that could, at those currents, cause the total disconnection of the device. If there's no physical signs of heating then a manufacturing fault is the likely cause. Photo's of the issue notwithstanding!

    Get yourself some simple heaters (start with 'tube' heaters for the lower wattage) and in a series going 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 watts. Switch them in/out binary fashion to get a variable load from 100 to 6300 watts in 100 watt steps.

    Can we see a close up of this part of the board? The big resistor that burned could well have been a current limiter in case of shorts but the MOSFET and resistor would have been part of the input switching circuit that also includes the primary of the SMPS inductor as well as the flyback...
