Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

Just to throw a few more ideas in. I still like to keep it simple by only cutting into one cable. BlindsStop-4 Moved D2 to make it more effective in protecting the input. BlindsStop-5 Made Q1 do low-side switching of the motor power BlindsStop-6 Used an optocoupler to activate the Stop...

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

If the ground on the Up/Stop/Down cable is also connected to the negative of the motor supply, then yes. If not, and opto-coupler could be used. I was trying to stay away from getting into both cables. Ken

The PICAXE microcontrollers are programmed in BASIC. To familiarize yourself with the chip and programming software (free) go to http://www.picaxe.com/ "...just need to get it done" Is there a time crunch? Have you promised someone this control with "That should be simple!" ;) Ken

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

Here is my latest iteration. Once the currents drops to within a selected range (less that DOWN and more than STOP), the relay opens and kills power to the blind. The relay then closes and waits for outside intervention to lift the blind. Noticed I didn't put in any component values. This would...

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

OK back to my question: if you cut power to the blind as it's moving down and then reconnect the power, does it revert to Stop? Ken

So there are ones installed with different controls...0-10V and UP/Stop/Down? Ken

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

"yes because if power is down for blind you can change limit by forcing motor down and limit will change" I don't understand this. Ken

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

In trying to deal with things I don't know, you implied the there the limits on the blind deployment was time. Are you sure of that? Ken

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

Now you've add another cable with control signals to the equation...and constant power to the blind. Is there anything else in the "actual" system of these blinds? Will cutting power to the blind reset the blind to STOP? That would simplify my circuit in that I don't need to compensate for...

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

I live in Minnesota, USA. Probably won't show up there soon. ;) Q1 is a MOSFET transistor. Yes, C is for capacitor. I get that you have little electronics experience. The PICAXE requires programs to be developed and installed. Maybe you can find an electronics hobbyist in you area to build...

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

OK. Last night I thought that I would take a shot at a circuit. So bit by bit I add stuff. :) Attach are two possible designs. Both untested, except in my late-night head. Not knowing what your local and building automation interface is with the blinds, I use 24V battery and a DPDT/Center-Off...

Yes you can sense the current just before the motor...but where do you get the power for the detector? And once detected what do you do? Ken

Need help to create safety device which will stop window blind going down if something is in the way

Besides detecting and interpreting the motor current levels, you have to have your detector interface with the system. Could you point out what units you are using in your systems: https://www.somfysystems.com/file.cfm/Sonesse_30_Databook_newest.pdf?contentid=153429 Ken

This is the switch you're using?: http://www.automatedshadestore.com/shop/product-info.php?Somfy_DC-Low_Voltage_DCT_Push_Button_Decora_Wall_Switch_-_White-pid454.html Looks like the "third party control" input terminals on the switch might be the way to interface a "shade-blocked" circuit. I...

    Lullaby circuit

Cheap? Are you looking at a one-off or production unit. So for the space, this would include the record/playback module, speaker, amplifier, and battery. Kind of an open ended question, but how loud does it need to be? I'm thinking of maybe an Apple Shuffle, tiny amp, small speaker, and battery...
