    You need to by an appropriate connector for it. I always go to digikey and click on the live help. Send them a link to the photo of the cable and ask them what they recommend. If nothing else, they always give me a good lead on what I need.

    My first thought would be there is not enough current being supplied by the zip zap counter through the old LED wiring. LED's have very limited current requirements. Are you using the exact same flash as pete? Do you know the requirements to get the flash to work?

    I know an oscilloscope would be the best option, but couldn't you just apply a 6v source to the base of the transistor with the load attached and take a voltage measurement across the C-E junction to check if the transistor was in saturation?

    No you can not add two 5V usb wires together and get 10 volts. They are all connected to the same supply source. Not as long as you isolate the two souces. A relay is a form of mechanical isolation and would work perfectly well in this situation.

    Doesn't matter, you just adjust the Duty cycle to a lower ON percentage per cycle.
