    If it is unconnected it will reduce the capacitance slightly. Without the sheet the two outer plates are 2 x 50 = 100u apart. With the sheet the plates are 105u apart. Capacitance is inversely proportional to plate separation.

    Welcome to EP! The diodes are there to prevent the cell with the lowest capacity getting charged 'backwards' in the event that the battery is drained excessively. Removing them would not be a good idea.

    Welcome to EP! Did you have the TV switched on when you tested the system? According to P30 of the manual your system has a VIERA Link arrangement which puts the system into standby mode when the TV turns off. Could that have kicked in?

    There should be, unless (a) the supply voltage is below the undervoltage lockout level or (b) the oscillator section is disabled by the timing cap voltage being clamped low. Does the cap have a disabling FET across it (as per the front page of the datasheet)?
