    Too slow to operate. The response time of a thermostat is much greater than that of a circuit-breaker. As previously asked, what is the circuit-breaker rating (Amps)? You need to power the element from a circuit which can handle 6A without stress, e.g. a 10A circuit.

    Presumably a 240V rated element as the link is uk-based. So current would be ~6A. If the breaker is 5A rated that would explain it tripping.

    Welcome to EP! Can you explain what you mean by 'pilot'? All you need to keep the element always on is a suitably rated switch.

    I don't see how you can prevent the handle getting hot, since you are passing steam through it. However, a layer of heat insulating material wrapped around the handle will reduce the heat reaching your hand.

    How much is 'very little current'? What is the pump rating? Electric motors have a start-up current which is several times their normal running current, so that may be a possible cause of controller failure.

    Do you have the bipolar version of the 555 or the CMOS version? You don't have a current-limiting resistor in series with the LED so you are lucky it has survived so far, but it might pull the output voltage of the 555 down too much if it's the CMOS version. What is your supply voltage?

    There is no such thing as a 3Ah motor. You are confusing Amps with Amp-Hrs. The 7Ah battery will be fine to power the actuator for much longer than the 2.3Ah one. The actuator will draw just the current it needs, namely 3A.

    Unless you're aiming for a steam-punk look I think a rotary motor would be far more efficient than a solenoid one. I guess your propeller is pretty big if it has a 1" diam shaft, so it will need some serious power if it is to be effective. I suggest you do some research into the power required...
