Problems charging a garden tractor battery

Do you have a volt meter to check the battery voltage? At rest the battery may read close to full voltage, but when you turn on the lights and/or try to start it, the voltage will drop radically on a bad battery. I suspect you need a new battery, but if you have a good charger and a volt meter...

    Culture Fix

I don't know what that is, apparently a DVD. Sounds to me though like what people felt like when they dropped LSD in my younger days. But as the song says, 'Timothy Leary's dead'. Long live the Koyaanisqatsi replacement.

    Repairing Philips SPA5300/10 soundsystem

We all live in different parts of the world. No one stays on this site 24/7 to respond to questions or problems. We're not ignoring you, we just can't get back to you immediately all of the time. I don't have time right now to Google a schematic for your sound system, you might try that...

    Ground and neutral wires

What we're trying to tell you, if we understand you correctly, is that you want an 'earth ground' to protect yourself and your property. That is a far cry from the electric company's 'neutral' return. Do you want a genuine 'ground' for your electrical outlets, or are you asking about something...

    Delay "off" Timer

You can Google circuits for what you want to do, but I'd go with JMW's solution. Unless you're a rabid do-it-yourselfer, why reinvent the wheel? There are plenty of TDR's (time delay relays) in normally open and normally closed configuration for your needs at reasonable cost.

    Limit car battery current

BobK is right. Trying to draw 41A for an extended period of time from a 12V car battery is not going to last very long. More information will help us help you.

    looking for reliable supplier

A production run of hundreds is manageable. Design your product, find the best screen available for your device when you're ready to produce it, and include a request for 10 to 25% extra screens so that people who buy your device and keep using it will be able to go to you for replacement parts...

    Limit car battery current

Yes, but what the heck is running at 41 amps in your 12V car? Are we talking about starter amperage when you crank the engine, or is this another issue?

Why I prefer electronics to plumbing

Thanks for the reminder. (And picture) Angelica Huston and Carolyn Jones have met their match in your Morticia. I think Friday was actually 'Wednesday', but you were all at the bar and maybe a little too tipsy to remember that. If you run into Pugsley there sometime, tell him Uncle Fester says...

    Ground and neutral wires

Do you want one less house in your village? Google information on making an earth-ground for your house. It's not difficult to do. The power company neutral, is not a ground.

    looking for reliable supplier

As far as I know, because of the hazardous chemicals involved in production, only China actually makes LCD screens presently. Environmental laws make it cost-prohibitive for companies outside China to do them. You might look for a supplier who handles the Chinese wares, but I don't think you're...

Why I prefer electronics to plumbing

I'll bite. Enough of Gomez, where's the picture of your beautiful Morticia? (And it better not be one of her doing the laundry) Let's see some proof that you two earned 3rd prize with a picture of the two of you at that competition.

Why I prefer electronics to plumbing

Where to I buy stock in Lowe's? Did you ask 'Tish' to speak French to you after you were finished with the repair job. (Another Addams Family reference, to Gomez and Morticia) I think you were entitled to some appreciation after all that work.

    Good Tech Movies...

Haven't seen 'Primer' so I don't know how technical it is. I watched 'Antitrust', which I thought was pretty good. It's not technical, but interesting take on big tech company manipulation of people to obtain results the boss wants.

Sherwood RD-6500 A/V receiver blowing fuses

Bridge rectifiers. Essentially four diodes in a bridge configuration, encapsulated in one package. There are four leads from the device into the circuit board. If you check the sides of the device, you'll probably find a part number on one of the sides.

Sherwood RD-6500 A/V receiver blowing fuses

It's highly unusual for a transformer itself to go bad. You've probably got a short circuit somewhere in the power supply circuit. We get this question a lot and most people agree that the first thing to check are the big electrolytic capacitors, because they go bad first. That's not to...
