    I'm not clear what effect you are trying to achieve by varying motor speed, but tape transport mechanisms usually involve a capstan motor with a substantial flywheel to stabilise the speed to eliminate wow and flutter. This would rule out any intended rapid speed variations.

    Not quite. The RasPi doesn't have the ADC, or even any analogue inputs.

    Google says the text on the schematic is Vietnamese. "OM" translates as "Ohm" and the text on the component just below JP5 translates as "Heating".

    Google "tape amplifier schematic" and you'll see plenty of solid state (low voltage) amplifier circuits to get you started.

    It might be that simple, if the remote operates from 12V and the push buttons merely apply 12V to circuit nodes. However, life is rarely that simple, so you would more likely need some interfacing circuitry, which would require reverse-engineering the remote.

    Welcome to EP! Something like this might be a starting point. You would have to hack the remote to link it to your signals.

    Another option, if you're restricted for space on the pcb, is to solder a tinned copper wire overlaid on a trace, using the solder liberally, to beef up the current-carrying capacity where needed.

    No. That uses a dual-gang log pot for balance (blend). You can go the Schatten route if you want. In post #63 I was saying how I'd do it. Those are high prices in the link.
