    recently I got a $20 case of ebay cos I needed to get some data of some hard drives, it was so simple, just get out the hard drive, plug it in and connect to computer. the file format won't be an issue as it will be fat32 or ntfs if it was windows and windows can read them both easily.

    alot of alarm clocks have a place underneath to install a 9volt battery. this stores settings such as time and alarms. you might want to look for one of these alarms. on the other side if you want to spend more money you can get a uninteruptable power supply, but thats overkill.
