    Confirm resistor type

    The two resistor picture: The one on top looks like a metal film resistor. I don't think the one on the bottom that fried is ceramic. I think it was the 'flame-proof' variety. Just 2 cents worth from an outside observer.

    I gotta agree here. The incandescent bulbs are all made in China now with zero quality control. I've had some spectaular explosions with even auto-light bulbs that were made in China. LED's would seem to me to be the way to go.

    I don't know how it is over there, but in the States, blue beacons signify airport facilities. You might want to check into that before you do this. Flashing alarms here are usually red or amber to signify alarm trip.

    If you've got a short, with power input disabled/disconnected,use an ohmeter across each cap to locate the one that's shorted.

    It may not produce the sound you want, but I've found the smallest, loudest, speakers I've ever run across are the little piezo-element speaker/sirens that are very inexpensive.
