    From my understanding, polarity doesn't matter with ccfls. It has no filament nor anode /cathode, it works on AC.

    Why modify anything? If old thermostat was set to 16° it will run until it reaches 16° AND the new one will also shut off at 16° regardless of what the maximum temp is. What's the problem?

    I see different models with different terminals, but I don't see a need to change or alter any components. You just need to match up your wiring to related terminals provided they match specs.

    Another idea for someone on a budget is to use an old computer power supply. They are filtered and regulated with several common voltage outputs. You could add Daves lm317 circuit or similar down stream.

    Not really. It's not practical for most uses. You won't be able to put much of a load on it. Once you add a load its resistance is paralleled R1 and the voltage will change . Look into voltage follower and regulator circuits.

    oops, I mistakenly put red wires in wrong place. Power gets past by power switch wire. I believe I've got a failed amp ka2206 from over voltage since it runs on full 12dc. Data sheet says it's absolute maximum is 15v and old ps was outputting 24.

    The top tracer is negative. Below that positive node that cathode connects and nothing else as far as I can tell. Below that anode lands.

    I don't see how power gets past D1(1n4007) when cathode is hooked to positive pin of power jack? I'd expect it the other way around. What am I overlooking?

    I just cropped it but if you Google it you will see it's a standard diagram. As I mentioned earlier, dealing with most Chinese suppliers is a nightmare. Sounds like we are almost there in figuring out the physical connections, although the start winding ohms sounds a bit on the low side
