    The start winding should have a 250uf start capacitor wired in series with it, as well as a switch that disconnects this winding when motor reaches about 2/3 full speed.

    If possible use an analog meter to take measurements. Using lowest ohm scale cross both leads together and zero needle reading. If you can't zero the reading with leads crossed, just make note of lead resistance so you can subtract it from your measured values later. If you only have three wires...

    You don't have to take it apart. Just undo wires from motor from terminal block and label them 1,2-3 or something to keep track of them. Then measure ohms between each wire and note the 3 resistances. Also, whats the (uf) value of the capacitors?

    Can you show us the motor itself? The shroud picture doesn't help me. Look for a name plate or id sticker on the motor and take a picture. Also what kind of motor is it? Model number? Btw, The brass jumpers shown in your pic is for changing voltage.

    :D It's still an option, although installing a 240v outlet would be preferable if it's going in a dedicated place in his home. For all we know he moves the sub from place to place for his DJ service.

    Ok, I thought cutting the common wire with a switch would cut audio to the headphones. I do see your point of how the headphone common would become a series circuit. Perhaps that could be harmful to the amp. Sorry jerryb. You'd better wait for a guru to draw in a 2 pole switch.
