    That would be really cool! When I first read the thread I was wondering how you would keep the powder out of your restricted areas, but then when I saw the video, I understood that the laser would be used like a cnc, but to fuse, not cut, the areas desired.

    Nice solution Kris! What is the purpose of the 47v zener diode? I had assumed that one diode would be the snubber to take care of the negative draw when the magnetic field collapses in the coil, but with two anode to anode, there will be no flow of current through that at all, correct?

    I hope not either... I can tell you from a similar thread started some time ago that one can learn a lot from watching the banter back and forth. If you discard the opinionated-ness of the comments, there is much to learn. And for the most part, it really has been quite civil!

    Enjoy, as for hiding the wire, plug mold is a great product. In your case, since its only a thin slender wire, consider painting it with the same color paint as your wall :) Cheers and Merry Christmas.

    True Bob, that is a great idea. I think though, the students showed great intuition in piecing together the project - especially from scraps. Very cool. A 3d printer is still really pricey (at least ~$500 if you DIY) and not as fast. @hevans1944 - my pleasure, I am glad you enjoyed it!

    I would like to have an LED timer made

    This is far from complete and may be completely incorrect... Just some ideas to further the conversation. The pic would need decoupling capacitors, the timing circuit is yet to be discussed - I thought the internal oscillator would be used for timing. Perhaps others will chime in with advice soon.

    What happens when electronic toys shut off by themselves?

    First make sure the batteries are fresh, I have some of my kids electronic toys do strange things with weak batteries - sometimes they seem to "recycle" the system memory, almost as if they shut down, then the battery recharges or recovers somewhat and retriggers the toy.
