    no, it is so the switch will work over the full range of voltage swing in the audio. As bob said, right now the switch would be off for any voltage lower then ground potential, which is half the audio.

    Why would you need a high amperage 555 circuit? I was suggesting use that to control whether the PSU is on or off, then that would generate a square wave on the output of the PSU which you could filter into a sine. Do you even need a sine wave? edit...

    with a binary counter and a flip flop would be one of the easiest ways. I guess you could just use the output of the counter to drive a transistor connected to the load.
