    Oscilloscope probe question.

Cool. I'll pick a set of 100mhz probes up on eBay for £10 or whatever. I'm just learning so any set will do me for now as long as they'll work. I've bid £40 for a Tenma 72 -6815 50mhz on eBay. For £50 all in I'll take a punt its going to work,if not I'll have fun trying to "fix" it. Thank again...

    Oscilloscope probe question.

I'm thinking of getting a 50mhz oscilloscope. 2nd hand of course, till I learn how to use one. My question is....does it have to be a 50mhz probe I get for it as they seem to be thin on the ground? Thanks in advance for the help.

    Magazines

I wonder how much of an effect everything being a key tap away instead of like you say waiting for each issue every week has had. The excitement and everything that follows after compared to just a few key taps. Funny how things change.

Blown multimeter fuse again - Doh!

I think I probably done 1 fuse, wondered why it wasn't working no more and changed meters only to do the other straight after! The thing that saved the third meter was me getting bored with meters that didn't seem to be taking measurements no more. I learned a few days later reading posts on here...

Blown multimeter fuse again - Doh!

I have 3 meters. The 10A is blown on 2! I'm waiting on new fuses to replace them now. Both were me "learning" how to take a measurement. Teaching ones self when one knows nothing is not very bright.....I "learned". Not all bad as I did learn something

    Boost Converter Fun.

I've been playing around with a boost converter I was sent by mistake for the last couple days. Its amazing the time you can do away messing around with one of these,a couple meters,a few bigger resistors and a notepad and pen(otherwise I forget). I find it very interesting and quite relaxing...

    Breadboards are awesome!

Oh I am buddy! I ordered a capacitor mixed pack and got a boost converter instead so I've been playing about with that. Now I understand how it works I'm going to make a much less powerful one on the breadboard to mess around with too. A few of the guys here like them also,I've just to not put...

    Test Equipment

I might be getting an old HP 54600B. I see some people say they are old heaps and stuff and others do this and that better but for my first scope it'll do me. It's only to practice on and probably abuse till I learn how to work one properly. Its in good nick and cheap so we'll see.

    Accuracy of digital multi-meters?

Ha try being a total newby! I see resistors, read a little and think...cool,they're a thick pipe or a thin pipe for electricity. I understand that kinda as pipes was a big part of my job....but then.... Not really. Close tolerance resistors are not just matched by 'resistance' they are also...

ETI magazine Feb 1979 - power supply (ETI-142)

Nice one Steve! I really hope you find all the bits you need to fix this up. I think its awesome when these things find their way to people who have the know how to fix them. Hope one day I can fix something like that up. That's the kind of thing electronics wise that interests me. Good luck.

    Breadboards are awesome!

I like it as a hobby. You did it as a job and made a profession out of it. I started getting interested after waking up disabled. Its a long day when you don't have work to go to each day. Electronics passes the time and is very interesting. Just goes to show how it can do something for everyone.

    Breadboards are awesome!

Maybe one of the site Moderators could edit the title of this post..... "Breadboards are awesome for beginners" ... I see why strip boards are better for sure but think for people just starting out like me with my limited knowledge and keen interest the breadboards have a place?? If I was...

What are these and do you think its toast

Ah I see them now! I was on my tablet and just saw the R###. The resistors it relates to are so small, the small pic on my tablet and my dodgey eyes all added up to me not even seeing the resistors. No knowledge prob played a big part too! Lesson in for today! ☺

    Breadboards are awesome!

All points taken on board. I have a couple strip boards too but I'll keep them for when I'm a bit more fluent with the parts and their purpose. Its good to be able to pull parts and change them around to see what didn't work before suddenly works!
