    My brand new oscilloscope

One of the buttons on this scope self destructed. Above is the exploded button along with a good button and a 3D printed replacement. As soon as we have some black filament I'll print them in black, but the red is growing on me. They're a bit loose at the moment, so I need to reprint...

My local hackerspace's electronics lab is taking form

Still quite a mess, but three working stations and lots of components. Many of the parts draws and quite a bit of stuff you can't see here come from one of my colleague's estates. He was very keen to see stuff used and it is!

    Snubber cap and R

The resistor is typically placed in series with the capacitor, not the load.

    Make Electronics Experiment 8 -Problem

It is also worth checking if you have wires the switch correctly. Depending on how the switch connections are configured, the relay may be always on, never on, or turn on and off with the switch. Because your talking to us, we know it's not the third one. A bit of explanation about the...

    ID 8-pin DIP

I think he was referring to is current state, not it's original state :-)

    Hello everyone

That's great. I didn't think you were, but I also wanted to make sure you didn't accidentally fall afoul of our spam rules. What brings you here? How can we help you?

Question storage dvd media and ziplock and silica gel

Putting the silica gel inside the "black closed box case" would be better.

    Hello everyone

Hi Jason, welcome to Electronics Point. I'm sure you're not here to spam us, but just be sure to check our policy on commercial posting so you don't accidentally fall afoul of it.

    weird BNC connector

I have a probe I'm going to repurpose. It's a BWD P90 probe (apparently for a powerscope iia)0. The odd thing about it is that it has a connector that appears to be a push on BNC. However, it doesn't have any cutouts for the lugs. I found the lugs off a BNC socket I had laying about and it...

    Chip Burns Out

Are you saying that running your finger across the board causes the device to lock up and fail? I would be looking for floating input pins first, but that's just a guess.

    MASTECH MS8911-Smart SMD Tester(R/L/C)

Ok, simply put, at any voltage the measurement taken in circuit can be affected by other components. A low voltage may prevent some components from exhibiting a large effect, but will have no influence on others.

    Calculate Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)

I would pull out my HP35665A DSA, and get it to compare the signals. Some digital oscilloscopes have FFT functionality and may be able to do this as well.

    MASTECH MS8911-Smart SMD Tester(R/L/C)

The claim was that at the particular test voltage there is no influence on other components (by which I assume you meant that there is no influence on the reading caused by other components). This is simply false. The low test voltage means that semiconductors in circuit are unlikely to affect...

Wanted: Wanted - copy of ETI magazine “Project Electronics”

Looking further, they have a wider holding (remove "international!") Although I have reason to believe the earlier issues are VERY incomplete.

Wanted: Wanted - copy of ETI magazine “Project Electronics”

Also, @kgilmore my local library has microfilm versions of ETI from 1981 to 1988. If you can identify a project and issue I can go in and get a copy (possibly by photographing the screen). If you can get back to me in the next 4 or 5 hours I may even be able to do it today. Edit: that's not...

Wanted: Wanted - copy of ETI magazine “Project Electronics”

Is this site of any use? https://www.americanradiohistory.com/ETI_Magazine.htm This is the UK version but it may have the same projects.

    NE5553U - Can't find a datasheet

Thanks. Knowing it is equivalent to a se5551 got me to a more detailed datasheet.
