    Very good then. I'd make sure your "home made generator" doesn't over charge the battery, or it will not last very long. A battery tender or trickle charger is probably the way to go.

    Sure, depending on how long you expect it to run. The battery you linked is 6 volt (you need 12v) and of a rather small capacity. The lugs are male spade terminals.

    Trying to figure out the problem on a drive thru sensor.

    There is already a speaker and mic above it, so that might be it. I expected to see a ground loop sensor buried in the driveway. There is likely another sensor control board for it somewhere. A picture of the receiver end would be helpful too.

    A false reading since there is current flowing through the resistors and your dc meter applies its own to it. Just knowing its a voltage divider, you can calculate that 8v is dropped across the 20k and 2v across the 5k. Totaling the 10v supply.

    Set to zero output? I assume you mean the load removed? I realize it's insignificant but, What about the current drawn by the biasing resistors?

    I think of a parallel as physically connected at both ends, not having a battery in series with it. In this example the 5k hooks to +, and the 20k hooks to - (neg). To me that's not the same node. I guess I'm thinking of the battery as a component.

    I don't disagree, but I'm have trouble calling this a true parallel because there is a physical connection (the voltage source) between them. Wither it's a battery or a power supply, this has an effect on the resistance one way or the other. Right? Totally agree on point 2. This was my sticking...
