Help a blind man in electricity

We do say ground for everything but we do specify when needed. Earth ground, chassis ground, isolated ground and so forth. Thanks to IEC terms are being standardized. Never heard that one. A pint is a measurement of volume not weight. A liquid US pint does equal 16fl oz. But is there an...

Help a blind man in electricity

I used to hear "Ground is ground the earth around" I guess it'd be more accurate to say,.. Earth is earth for what it's worth.

Help or advise for diagnosing Verilux floor fluorecent lamp controller.

You could start by checking the diodes and then the electrolytic caps with an ESR meter. Those smd transistors on the back are suspect. (Q1,Q4) You might need a hot air gun for dealing with smd components.

Help a blind man in electricity

Yes, I would think the triangle common ground would be the appropriate symbol. Make me wonder how many people have driven ground rods into the earth trying to satisfy the ground symbols.

Help a blind man in electricity

In other words, all the ground symbols tie together and to the negative (black) supply wire. The audio input wires connect to the top of R3 and to ground (same negative wire) Hope my answer doesn't offend anyone. Ps; Should R3 be a variable resistor?

Help or advise for diagnosing Verilux floor fluorecent lamp controller.

Imo= In my opinion. If its something your dedicated to diagnosing,...More power to ya. I respect your ambition. But usually the components in a starting ballast circuit are potted making them inaccessible. Even if you get access to the board, your probably dealing with tiny smd components that...

Make a relay switch? Like a mosfet high amp.

Thanks Dorke, that's a big vd considering a 3.7v source.

Make a relay switch? Like a mosfet high amp.

Sounds like you need a high power SCR or thyristor

Not really worth screwing with imo. Buy a 27w cfl ballast and install it. It will run about $15 dollars US.

    Anyone near Indiana?

Looks like Hevans1944 won't be joining us on a sking, snowmobiling or tobogganing trip anytime soon. Btw, beach sand is not so great when inhaled either.

    Wire size for current?

The higher the voltage, the lower the current necessary for the same power. So higher voltage requires smaller wire because less amperage is used. This is why transmission lines carry hundreds of thousands of volts. So putting your boost circuit near the source would allow smaller wire to be...

how can I make my pc to be i/o device for microcontroller by wireless means

You can add interface boards to your computer and control them with various programs like C++ or Visual Basic. Link below is a basic IO board board, but analog and digital inputs are also available. http://www.icpdas.com/root/product/solutions/pc_based_io_board/pci/pio-d24_56.html

I've got duel citizenship (Can/US) so not really a neutral country. Lol. Let me know when your thinking. I'll buy the apple pie but not the Chevrolet.

    Wire size for current?

That is for high frequency power transmission and 100% skin depth. The National electric code say 14 awg is good up to 25amps provided all terminations are rated at 90c and ambient 30c. Usually terminals are rated at 75c so that would limit it to 20amps. BTW, 9awg wire is not really on the...

    Wire size for current?

A good rule of thumb is to oversize wire by 125% of the motor circuit full load. The important thing is to fuse circuit to protect the wire. So if it draws more than 20amps, it will just blow a fuse. I was assuming his 20a number was full load current, not the normal operation draw measured with...

Need help with long distance circuit

Nice find. Hopefully your conductors, boxes and splices are all rated for wet locations. (They do make wire nuts listed for wet locations.) Keeping water out of a pvc underground conduit run is next to impossible.

How to change the frequency of AC mains supply

I would use a bypass valve that dumps excess pressure back to the inlet or tank. This is better than dead heading the pump.

Need help with long distance circuit

Does not sound right to me. I would check for continuity and ohms across the float switch. (Do not touch both lead with your fingers as this will give false ohm reading.) When open, it should not pass any current, and certainly not energize the relay coil. Also take a voltage reading across the...
