    Wire size for current?

Best to use twisted pair cable. The advantages are the flexibility of the stranded wire and mitigation of EMI interference that can put noise on sensitive equipment. The wire size is determined by the load, not the amount your supply is. You can feed up to 20 amps on 14awg wire (depending on...

    Exactly what component is this?

Oh, I thought it was green with silver glare from your camera! Cut off the shrink wrap on the other resistor and try and compare colors. Possibly faded from heat?

I agree. While the best would be a XRL connector imo.

Any markings on the board where it came from?

    Exactly what component is this?

You can see its wire wound, but thought it was a resistor. The third color (green) does not seem to correspond with an inductor color code.?

    Exactly what component is this?

52.5k ohm, 1% Body color is strange. Flame proof, or a faded color? What does it read on your meter?

Also check the thermocouple/thermistor feedback to make sure its calling for heat. I'd do an ohm check of that cable with the red and yellow wire going back to the controller board.

Did you get your 2.5v thru the optoisolator and on the gate?

Look at the specs on the triac before proceeding, but I believe the outside two leads are triggered with a 5vdc supply from that white dip (comparator?) Anyway, if you have 5v at the triac gate, it should send AC to the heat element. Please be careful working around AC line voltage.

The triac controls the heat, not the relay.

Not a good sign when someone else has worked before pawning it off on you. Looks like they replaced the triac and transformer? (If I'm looking at the right connection) That's not a fuse, I believe it to be a zener diode. (The clear looking component.)

Yes, I had one in the 80's. You can all thank me for paving the way for today's DVD technology. ...Or, should I say, pay the way.

I think you want stereo mini jack to rca jack cable. This can be feed into a line level input of your amp/receiver so it can amplify it loud enough. For example plug rca end into your auxiliary input jack and the mini stereo jack into your phone...
