    Help identifying component on PCB

I'm sorry, I thought you said the motherboard didn't recognize the HDD.

I use GreenGiant's method. Just remember to re-tin the tip after you sand it down.

    Help identifying component on PCB

I cheat. I use my trusty Sencore Z-meter to read the values. If you don't know somebody who has one, and you can't find a schematic with part numbers, sometimes it's best to check EBay for similar devices and salvage parts. The short answer is, if the componet isn't marked, it's tough. As I...

Make a mouse fence that kills mice..in the celing!

Heaven save us from the compassionate. I suppose it's better to allow vermin to infect your family with illness. Maybe we're supposed to catch 'em and release them to return, or infest someone else's house. pilko must've read that somewhere. Been using the glue sheets for years. Maybe if...

Make a mouse fence that kills mice..in the celing!

Dead mice IN the ceiling, that you can't remove, is as bad as the initial problem. Try getting at them where they enter and exit the place. Most of them are pretty smart about traps. I've found the sticky-glue sheet 'traps' extremely effective. The mice don't know they're there, when they...

    Help identifying component on PCB

Well, I can't identify anything from your photos. If it's wirewound, it's probably an inductor or a small transformer. What does the silkscreen marking on the PCB where you got it from say? If it says 'L', it's and inductor, if it says 'T', it's a transformer. I know you said this is broken, but...

Wanted: Manual For My Sencore FE-160 VOM

Sorry to hear that they've changed their business practices. I don't have that manual, but you might get a hit here from someone that does. I suppose you already tried Googling for it? Ebay? Disappointing news about Sencore, but good luck in your search.

Wanted: Manual For My Sencore FE-160 VOM

ANY time I needed a manual for any of my Sencore instruments, they always sent me one for free. Maybe they'll do it online these days. Contact them, they back-up their gear.

    introduction

You probably need to enter questions in the appropriate category for specific answers. I used to work in a cement plant. Most of the info you need for your question will be heavily dependent on the equipment you're using. Often, whatever manufacturer you're buying from will offer assistance...

power supply voltage sagging under load

For Trivia, I use a Sencor Z-Meter to tests caps. It's darned good for that. Sounds like there's agreement about the caps being suspect. I'd also check the semiconductors in the cap ckt (Voltage Regulators and Power Output Transistors).

Repairing a loose battery in a mp3 player

It sounds like the factory used a hot glue gun (cheap at any store for hobbies or home repair), to tack the battery in place. Do you have a meter to check your battery voltage, to see if it's holding a charge? Big problem I've seen with CD players and cordless phone batteries, is crushing of...

    Beards and Hurricanes

Like most of the country, I don't ever see Fox News, unless I use the computer to look up something. I'm talking about the news most of the country gets. NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS From what I've heard, Fox News is the ONLY place that offers any type of questioning, from what ABC, CBS, NBC, & PBS says...

    Beards and Hurricanes

All's I can say, is thank heaven Sandy happened with Obama in office. According to the news, there are no problems in NY or NJ. If George Bush was in office, I'd be seeing continuous coverage of a catastrophe. I shaved off my beard. Everyone told me I looked 20 years younger,... except of...

    Analog Devices AD40321

Thanks Rusty. I found that one from Q-Service, it's the one that confused me. At least I know they say it's an Op Amp with JFET input. Fluke often uses different numbers for the same part, depending on the instrument it goes in. Maybe the two are equivalent, but my Fluke literature says the...

    Analog Devices AD40321

Anybody know what this device is? Date Code 1984 I can't find a data sheet on it, Analog Devices doesn't show it in their data sheet base. I crossed it (I thought) to a Fluke 448 985, but a supplier that has Fluke parts says the AD40321 is a Fluke part number 357 830, .... so I'm confused...

    Capacitor scrap metal

My employer says they're contaminated with hazardous waste, with solder still on them, so they pay to have them removed as hazardous waste. Gives other people jobs, I guess.

    E-waste design project

Additionally, Specific electronic component lines don't last, unless it's a very commonly used component. Somebody invents a component, they make them for a while, then somebody makes something better. What that means for repair techs like me, is that there are only so many years when you can...

What's with the 'Ads By Google' all the time now?

Hmmm, didn't get a chance to do anything. Like GreenGiant, went home and had no problems on home computer, only had the problem on the work computer. Came in today, and the 'Ads By Google' problem is gone. Looks like some kind of intermittent issue with commercial company software that...
