What task does this item perform for society?

Or, why was it found under a rock that clearly did not belong there??. I have two ideas... The IR extender was dropped and a rock off the rock wall fell and covered it.. Or The burglar left it covered with a rock from the wall indicating the premises for a later 100% clear out. Unfortunately...

What task does this item perform for society?

I’m glad you cleared this mystery up John. I spent an hour on the train home staring at the picture imagining what it could be!. While living in France, I saw something similar indicating the electric fence was powered on and the LED indicated the entry/exit point. You would disconnect two...

    RED LED Darkroom light

Hi Duke, my neice also does black and white photography. She uses E27 GU10s in red 620nm. They have 20 red LEDs in each. She has 4 of these and the dark room is very red!!. She says it works the same as incandescents but could be brighter if she added more. Martin

Triple output power supply blowing main fuse

The series bulb limits the current. Also acting as a resistor, there is now no short detected. I use different wattages for different appliances. A 300W will work too. The X caps are across the input. Removing them has no consequence other than external interference like clicking through...

Triple output power supply blowing main fuse

Incandescent bulb!! You can simply remove the X2 caps for testing. They could have shorted the input. Martin

Triple output power supply blowing main fuse

I think this is the perfect scenario for a series bulb. Put an AC 100W in series with the mains in. You can put it directly across the fuse. The bulb will light brightly indicating a short but wont blow any other components. You can now troubleshoot the ‘live’ circuit. Martin

    British Television?

I’d be happy to buy a DVD or Subscribe to a channel I wanted to watch/view. We don’t have a choice. The BBC are acting like the SS of 1945. If your house recieves it, pay for it!. If you buy a new TV, post code first. You cannot buy a TV without it!!. Or so they think...........

    Electronic door lock is safe?

I doubt it would cause a trapped scenario. Plastic melting point is 200-300 degrees C. Wood burning point is apprx 300 degrees C. Aluminium is about 650-700 degrees C. Steel is 1300-1600 etc. One would hope the occupants were out long before these temperatures. Martin

isolating transformer and variac - what order?

I have never actually reduced the voltage while using the series bulb. I just set 240v, plug in the DUT and turn the series bulb unit on. I’ll try to add a picture of the unit I made later. It has two bulbs and switches in parallel. I can obviously change the bulbs for different wattages but...
